Are you looking for a place for affordable storage? Whether regular or self storage, If you have items you need to store for a long period of time, you need to find a place to put your stuff.

Why would you need storage? Storage is important if you on summer vacation from a university, traveling for a period of time, or just don't have enough space in your own house. If you have a ton of stuff but nowhere to put them, if you need to find more room for the important things in your house, but you still have tons of files you just cannot afford to throw out, you need storage.

There are a lot of places to find storage: I, personally, just use my parents' garage :) However, not everyone has the same ability or resources as everyone else, so you may find yourself in a situation where you just really need to rent a place to store things!

So how do storage units work? You usually rent a small garage inside a big complex. Note that the complex is often far outside of town, where there is space for a big warehouse, so you will almost certainly need to drive there. At this big warehouse, you will rent a single storage unit--the size of the unit depends on the price you pay---where you can store as much as you like. The idea is to rent a small garage, where you can put your stuff and come and go as you please to retrieve and add more stuff.

So what are some companies that do self storage? Every area has their own storage providers, so you should first check the yellow pages, the newspaper, Google, etc to find locations nearby. Often, in daily newspapers, you can find steep discounts on specific sizes. For example, Public Storage, a national chain of storage warehouses, offers a $1 for the first month plan, if you find the coupon in your newspaper. It is good to try to keep up on potential deals and offers for your storage space, to make the unit more affordable.

You can check google by searching for 'storage <city name>' which will often retrieve results of potential storage suppliers in your area. This is quick and easy.

After, call up a few of the providers and ask the details. How much space do you need? Make sure you know---you don't want to waste money by renting too much space, but you also definitely don't want to load everything in your warehouse unit and then find that you have to come back and move everything again because you need more space. Be smart and get a rough estimate of how much space you need.

Then, call these companies and ask how much a unit of that size costs. Some common measurements range from between 5' x 5' and 20' x 30', so you can probably find whatever size you need to store all of your stuff.

Check out some of the big providers, like Public Storage and U Store It to see if they operate in your area as well. They often have excellent deals.
