Once you have begun your colon cleanse program, you will need to do a few things after starting it to help determine whether or not your colon is being cleansed properly and when your colon is clean enough for you to cease taking the psyllium husk and betonite clay mixtures that are used to clean out your colons with. Depending on how much residue and dirt may be trapped in your colons, cleansing may take as little as two weeks for some and a couple of months for others.

Usually, younger individuals who have had less time to ingest the kind of food that leaves junk in the colon often take a shorter amount of time to get their colon cleanse program to work as compared to older individuals. Younger people find that the appearance of their stools and frequency of their bowel movements often happen a couple of weeks after they begin their programs, older people tend to see these results after a month or two.

After your colon cleanse program gets underway, you will need to try and determine if the amount of junk that is coming out of your body through your bowels is slowly minimizing. You will need to check your stools for this. You should be able to see mucoid plaque on your stools in a couple of weeks if your program for cleaning out your colons is working. Some people see this plaque after a month or two, indicating that it took them longer to get their colons cleaned out.
