Agnostic: what is it that they question?

Agnostic...what is it? Certainly not Satanist. I can not count how many times I have heard an uneducated person ask if someone who is Agnostic worships the devil. If anything, an Agnostic person questions whether hell and the devil even exist. I am writing this blog to help answer questions and educate the uneducated about Satanism vs. Atheism vs. Agnostic. There is a difference.

Being Agnostic myself, I respect the thoughts and ideas of others, but that is all i think of it as: just thoughts and idea, not THE way of life.  I feel I don't need religion because i am not afraid to have control over my life and what happens to me.  I believe my decisions and the situation i put myself into with a combination of other people's decisions have an effect on my life, not a divine power.  I also feel people want to believe in a higher power because they like the thought of a perfect being, that things happen for a reason, and they could be forgiven even when they can't forgive themselves.  I don't believe in any certain religion, however I do believe in a higher something out there because of things i can not explain.  When/ If i could and rule out the possibility I would be atheist but i can't so I am Agnostic

Here are articles explaining the concept of Agnosticism

What is it that you question about religion?

  • that god exist
  • that god knows all and has a plan for everyone
  • miracles/ divine intervention
  • heaven and hell
  • teaching of church/ the way of living
  • the bible/ word of god
  • all of the above

What is so interesting about agnosticism is that (in it's simplicity by way of questioning faith) it actually acknowledges the essential belief of religious people about humankind at the end of the day. It acknowledges and affirms our uncertainty, and by extension...our imperfection.

Since the god so many worsip is by their definition "perfect" (omnipotent, omniscient), an agnostic is only seeking more tangible evidence of such.

I would also add that one definition of "God" is "The supreme or ultimate reality." This reality could be the vast conglomeration of things that we can't control or readily explain, like weather, the universe or...even faith itself.

In living as someone who does not put their stock merely in faith, agnostics do indeed honor the ultimate "reality."

I have always felt that spirituality should be based on understanding rather than blind belief, which is why I am basically agnostic.

thank you all for the comments and yes i agree completely with your statements; faith is a difficult concept to grasp and religion will be a controversial subject for ages untill the youth nation and world wide can speak out and be bold enough to just accept that some people will believe in different things and just respect it

I believe that if a person is honest with themselves and with God, that God will "meet" him/her where they are. But if agnostic is a place to hide and not be honest with where you are then God will indeed make Himself known but honesty is how he will reach you to convince you of the unknowns that bother you. It looks like you are an honest person and if you are, He will meet you right where you are and will convince you the things He wants you to know. Only you know if you're honest though and of course He knows. I choose to believe you are and to pray for you and the rest of my friends here at hubpages. Love, peace.
