Agriculture the backbone of capitalism

In order for capital to exist there has to be a surplus of something.just as there is in agriculture where a farmer using his labor; plants a seed in the hopes it will return to him at least a hundred times and most likely a thousand times what he invested by planting that seed.Although he may not know the precise mechinism by which his seed produces wealth, nevertheless it does,as long as conditions such as,sun ,rain, and soil are all optimum ,then he will get a thousand fold increase.in his investment. That is the true nature of capitalism Knowing the conditions necessary for your investment to increase and if possible cultivate your investment under those conditions.By the way those economists who claim that agriculture is not the backbone of the economey must be forgeting where their last meal came from..If there were no agriculture civilization itself would not have advanced anywhere near where it is today.Sure, there are other sources of producing capital ,but ultimately they all rely on agriculture to prop them up by feeding those who do the labor for the capitalists in all those other fields of industry.

That could be why we have so many mega farms today. They know that controlling the cost of producing our food as well as controlling the source of our food is key to controlling not only the price of feeding people that exchange their labor for wages, but having control over that food cuts their labor costs. There have been times in history where food alone was how laborers got paid, and still do in some third world countries.Even in the unitedstates up until in the first half of the twentith century farmers were the mainstay of the economy. If we have gotten so full off ourselves believing we can survive without agriculture or something to replace it ,we are all going the way of the dinasaur. Our first president knew the value of agriculture. He was promoting the growing of hemp for ropes and sails for sailing ships, canvas bags,clothing,paper,etc..2500 different items.in all can be manufactured today from this one plant that is related unfortunately to cannibis and has been outlawed as an agricultural crop in the unitedstates a few years before the end of the second world war.Hipocritically the government was paying farmers to grow hemp before the war for victory because raw materials were in such short supply back then. Now ,because of certain "Capitalists" in the chemical industry and wood suppliers to the paper milling industry didn't want the growth of the hemp industry to compete with wood fiber for paper and cloth with rayon which is a synthetic cloth material made from wood which is made using chemicals --which has since lost it's popularity for the most part when polyester and nylon came from the synthetic material industry.I find it hard to understand how they could convince so many people ,especially the medical industry that marijuana was so dangerous without somehow hiding the truth or getting caught bribing someone to turn a blind eye to the facts..

A certain magazine owner who's daughter was jailed for her involvement with the P.L.O.-PEOPLES LIBERATION ARMY during the late 1970's owned a large tracts of land with timber on it that he was eager to sell to the wood pulp industry was involved in the fabrication of false statements in his magazine that he probably believed himself as to the effects marijuana or cannibis had on a persons brain. He even went so far as to say it,caused people to murder others as a result of it's chemical influence on the brain information that would later be proven to be false.Movies ads were even made to convince the public of this fabrication.by saying that it caused black men to rape white women as well as cause men to murder their whole familiesThis was during the late 1940's after the second world war ,when most people still went to the movies for their entertainment where these ads were shown.Television ads too as black and white television was already well established by then.

Although I don't advocate the use of marijuana.Using it to criminalize hemp because the two plants are related is fraudulant in the extreme and as recently as the early 1970's Nixon our former president was being petitioned by agriculture to allow hemp to be grown as well as requesting that marijuana to be taken off the list of dangerous drugs because there was no proof that it was as harmful as it was made out to be. I hear some studies say it's more harmful for our lungs than cigarettes.I find that hard to believe.

But it's not my purpose to legalize marijuana, just to allow hemp it's cousin to be grown as the agricultural crop that it truely is.It's being grown elsewhere, why not here.I understand that hemp is already a very profitable crop that does not require pesticides or a lot of fertilizer and can be grown almost anywhere.and can be used in the production high protein meal for human as well as animal consumption and thousands of other uses.bio fuels fibers, oils like omega3's ,inks, plastics that are bio-degradable and has been grown in quanity by non other than Henry Ford for the fuel it could provide .Henry Ford even used hemp fibers to use in the manufacture of a fiberous menbrane for a plastic body in his car manufacturing process that could withstand being hit by a twenty pound sledge hammer. without being dented in the least..

So,what or who is keeping this miraculous plant from being employed in the twentyfirst century?

P.S.----At least one of the videos online mistakenly or intentionally use the word marijuana   when they are talking about hemp which clearly is not the same plant and they should know better than to mix the two interchangably as they do.

I regret the fact that J.F.K. was fooled by this charlitan into giving him an award for his enforcement of this farce of a federal law ,called the marijuana stamp act.

Thank you for this informative and interesting hub. Like you, I know hemp is not necessarily marijuana. I also know those who lobby to legalize marijuana - including, now, the AMA apparently - don't understand the dangers of legalizing a "gateway" drug. Look at the statistics. If a person smokes or uses marijuana it is most likely he also uses other drugs to heighten the feeling. Thanks again for your great hub,

Don White
