Air Duct Cleaning Cost
74Can You Afford NOT to Clean Your Air Ducts?
Many people are concerned with the effect of chemicals on your daily life. People also are concerned about other areas of their environment including the quality of their indoor air. Many people are allergic to animals like dogs and cats or anything with fur and as a result use air purifiers, special filters and other methods to keep the indoor air as clean as possible.
The only problem with treating only the air that your breathe is that you are neglecting a not so obvious possible source to any airborne allergens in your home. No matter the age of your home, the ductwork for your heating and air conditioning duct cleaning system has some quantity of dust, dust mites, allergens and particles that can contribute to an allergy or create breathing problems for those susceptible to airborne pathogens.
Even if your home is brand new the duct work will have picked up a variety of particles including sawdust, drywall dust and any other particles circulated through the system before the house was fully finished.
Most contractors will have a service that vacuums out the various vents around the house, but only in rare instances will a contractor use a professional company to insure the air ducts are fully cleaned before first occupancy due to the air duct cleaning cost involved.
To give you an idea of air duct cleaning cost I want to show you what the equipment a cleaning company has to invest in to do the job properly. One of the leading companies that make air duct cleaning equipment is Rotobrush International. Located in Grapevine, TX Rotobrush International has a policy of hiring ex-military personnel. They provide air duct cleaning systems, video inspection systems, air filters, insulation and dryer vent cleaning equipment.
One of the greatest risks of fire in the home outside of the kitchen is your dryer vent. If you move into a home that is not new construction, one of the first things you should do is make sure that the dryer vent and dryer vent exhaust tube are thoroughly cleaned out before hooking up your dryer.
Abatement Technologies offers similar products in package form so that you can get started in the Indoor Air Quality industry by cleaning air ducts professionally. Their start up packages begin at $6400 and top out at almost fourteen thousand dollars. Included in the packages are everything you need equipment wise to get started cleaning air ducts for fun and profit.
You get a portable vacuum system, a compressor, agitator, filters, hoses and other accessories. The increase in package price is due to an increased volume and flow of the vacuum, a heavier duty compressor with a Honda engine versus a Subaru engine, longer hoses, a more effective agitator system, chemicals and more accessories for different type of duct systems.
Abatement Technologies patented system combines their Aire-Sweep Compressed Air Tools and their Duct-Pro Mechanical Agitation Brush System in conjunction with a HEPA-Aire filter system to create negative pressure in the area being cleaned so that all of the particles dislodged by the Duct-Pro brushes will be fully removed from the duct work. The key to effective cleaning is mapping out the duct work and creating a zone system to get all areas cleaned properly.
If you have a long run of ductwork you will need to block off some areas to create the negative pressure needed to remove all of the contaminants. If you try to clean too large of an area the part of the ductwork farthest from your compressor will not be cleaned as thoroughly. It won’t matter that all of the contaminants lining the duct work are dislodged, because the pressure won’t be strong enough to get them out of the farthest away areas.
With any of these cleaning systems you will need to cut holes in the customers’ duct work to insert your brush and vacuum systems. All manufacturers include hole plugs for insertion after you have completed your job. These hole plugs are designed to be removable so that you do not have to cut new holes on your next trip to that customer on repeat business.
The great thing about Abatement Technologies packages is that they include an instructional DVD that shows the equipment in use on actual ductwork so that you can practice on your own home prior to setting out to handle customers.
