Dyson Air Multiplier - The 'Bladeless' Fan Review

The Dyson Air Multiplier, otherwise known as 'The Bladeless Fan' is probably the most ridiculously overpriced Dyson product I have ever known, and I can only guess that they either massively overspent on research & development or the whole business has been in a coma for the whole duration of the world financial crisis. In fairness to Dyson, the fan is an astonishing bit of technology and a truly innovative new product, but $329USD for what is effectively just a desk fan? That puts a desk fan on par with a top of the range hoover, and is probably one for the extravagant and the stupid for the time-being.

That $329 buys you the 12 inch fan, whilst $299 can get you the 10 inch version. In fairness to the fan it works perfectly, and I actually have a soft spot for the design, but my $25 brand-less and blade using fan keeps me perfectly cool in the summer months; sorry but I am out. How much would I pay for the Dyson Air Multiplier? Probably about $90, so that probably prices me out forever. There is however one thing that may save Dyson with this one, an area which it has not yet decided to exploit from a marketing perspective, and that is the safety benefits to families with young children or pets; it doesn't take a genius to work out why. Would you like another opinion? The hubber Singular Investor has done a feature too, which you will find here.

I notice the "bladeless" fan has a bladed fan in the base. Um Hum! Maybe the reason Dyson products are so expensive is to make up for the cost of glitzy (and misleading) computer graphics and a "wowee zowee" advertising campaign.

Thanks ryankett.
