Airline Approved Travel Pet Carriers

I'm going to let you know just how easy it is to travel with your pet either on an airline or in your car with a proper Travel Pet Carrier. If you are flying across the country or walking around the block, traveling with your pet can be fun and easy as long as you make the right preparations for their safety and your comfort.

Let's talk about airline travel first. Airline travel has a lot of restrictions, and especially with a pet. Large pet or small, make sure you call the airline you are traveling on to get their specific rules and regulations concerning pet travel. Small pets can usually be considered carry on luggage. That means you can carry them on the plane with you and they will have to be stowed under the seat in front of you.

You cannot just toss your pet into any old bag and I don't mean that in a joking way. I've seen some travellers be denied because the bag in which they were using was not approved by airlines. Soft, sturdy carriers work best. The pet carrier must zip completely closed, and it must fit under the seat. It's also a good idea to place their favorite toy in the carrier with them. this will tend to calm the animal down because it contains the scents of familiar surroundings. I usually put in some treats also. Not a lot, but a few. Airlines actually require you to leave food and water in a dish inside the pet carrier.

I always put in a few pee pads because my little dog usually gets nervous and has an accident. When I get to where I'm going, I just throw the pee pad away. Simple and I avoid a mess inside the pet carrier.

Once you arrive at the airport, you must keep your pet inside the pet carrier. I know this sounds like a silly tip, but if you can find some grass before you enter the terminal, let little FuFu take a pee. Enough said. A little exercise helps to reduce the pet stress also.

Traveling by car is much easier to use pet carriers. I do not recommend carrying your dog in your lap while driving. Many people do and it bothers me that they take safety so haphazardly. This is dangerous for you, the pet and the other drivers. It's best to keep your pets in a comfortable pet carrier and keep it secure with a seat belt. If you are going on a long road trip, keep their food and water with them inside the pet carrier.

Pet carriers are even convenient for short walks around the block. Most soft pet carriers are designed to carry over your shoulder with straps. I have a very small dog and she gets tired on long walks. I don't like to cut my walks short, so I will usually bring my pet carrier. Sometimes I wish I was the pet because the soft pet carriers look very comfortable. My little dog usually goes to sleep before I arrive back home.
