Al Gore Wins Nobel Prize, What Ordinary People can do in the battle for Environmental Survival
53AL Gore's stupendous efforts to get us to recognise the effects of climate change rewarded
Former US Vice President turned environmental campaigner Al Gore has won the Nobel Peace Prize.
He was named joint winner of the prestigious prize at a ceremony in Norway along with the UN climate change panel.
The citation for Mr Gore read: "His strong commitment, reflected in political activity, lectures, films and books, has strengthened the struggle against climate change.
"He is probably the single individual who has done most to create greater worldwide understanding of the measures that need to be adopted."
Conservationist and broadcaster David Attenborough said the award "recognises the reality of the threat that faces the world and the leadership that Al Gore has given on this matter".
He added: "He has been campaigning on this and talking about this and trying to raise international awareness of the problem for decades.
"It's splendid that he should get this high profile recognition."
Al Gore has shone a spotlight on the issue and brought it to our attention, and whilst our government is, as always, slow to react and change to create a culture where we embrace more environmentally sound policies, there is plenty for us to do on an individual basis.
Become aware of your household waste, recycle, reject packaging in supermarkets and if possible eat locally grown, organic food.
Cynthia Curry, President of LifeSuccessforyou states, 'Firstly, let me congratulate Mr Gore on this fabulous achievement. He has worked tirelessly on this issue and deserves this success. Everone can and must do more to save the environment. One of the most effective ways to cut your carbon footprint, the amount of carbon you as an individual are responsible for releasing into the atmosphere, is by cutting down on auto travel.'
'If you can, share a car to work; even better, work from home, so there's no commute at all.!'
'Luckily there has been a boom in work at home businesses, and 2007 saw the summer launch of Roadmap to Riches, a spectacular web success. Also, the complete product program is downloadable, so there's no waste generated from packaging, shipping etc.'
Cynthia adds, 'Every one wants to work from home, it's the ideal situation for a lot of us women who have young families or other commitments, and apart from the great income opportunities, we can now pat ourselves on the back as being so much more environmentally friendly than our office working friends'.
