Punk Hair

Although the Punk hair movement was thought long gone since the 1970's, once again in the 1980's & even in the 1990's people thought it would disappear all together but it is alive & well in my living room today but it's called scene or emo take your pick but to me it's all Punk.

Not just my teenager but all her friend's; boys & girls alike are all getting excited about Punk hair dos & don'ts. From music videos to television shows you see more & more people with a so called punk hair style. Watching the VMA Awards or watching the news you are likly to see a lot of people with this hair style.

One of the most popular ideas with the teens seems to be a combo of color not just one plain old color although that does exists as well. For the purpose of punk hair the color needs to be some thing that is a contrast to stand out. Either Blonde hair with black, pink, blue or green tips or it could be a combination of Red hair with the back of the hair black, pink, blue, orange, green or any other eye catching combinations. I have even come across black hair with blonde horizontal stripes. Then there is the ever popular three or four colored hair where they take your hair color as the base then ad one other color to the back, then chose one other color for the bangs then yet another for the crown of the head.

The ultimate punk hair is even more adventurous then just color combinations with the ever popular Mohawk making a bold come back & an even bolder statement with the added color combinations.

Anything spiky goes there is a wide range of spiky-ness to this whole idea of punk hair. If it is not spiked or teased is it truly punk hair?

First & foremost you have to have a certain level of some spiky areas to consider yourself punk. You have to step out side of the whole idea of a regular hair cut. There is a certain amount of short layering with a small touch of teasing in mostly the crown area of the hair but not simply limited to the crown mind you with the whole Russell Brand punk hair style is the spike style at the back as well as the tease that is incorporated along with it.

Some people just embrace their inter punk like Russell Brand who hosted the VMA Awards last night on MTV.

Others just go all Punk with the bold color, cut & style they are full on Punk. Some may like the long shaggy top with shaved back look yet others like a little bit of color with a good tease. Even David Beckam got in on the whole punk Mohawk action last year. Most steep angled layers that are very pronounced on the head weather on the ends of the back or the top of the crown (not to be confused with the good old Flat Top)most punk hair dos are easy to spot because they break the mold of the so called normal hair do. Some say the Punk style can be called untraditional or even unexpected like Madonna's Corn rolls dyed dark black. Take a look at the pink spiked do for Paris Hilton. Even a white blonde look with spiked crown in the back such as Pink's in the picture is considered punk.

It is obvious Punk hair is here to stay weather you are talking about Pink Performing at the VMA Awards or talking about the teenager who lives on your block or in your house which ever the case may be. There are different kinds of punk hair style.

Regular Punk: A normal type hair cut but when gel or mouse is applied the hair is made to spike in unexpected areas as well as ways.

Skater Punk: Such hairstyles have the hair cut in asymmetrical lengths and spikes are made to stay in place with gel or hair spray. While making this hairstyle, more focus is given to the ends which are made to look to short, teased and spiky. The ends can be made more interesting with the neon colors.

Horn Mohawk: The look is really similar to the Mohawk but this one is in a single spot on the head say the top or back in the center of you head. The first thing is that the dying of the hair, the color is in either black, red, purple orange or some very distinct color. Then the spikes come in that are similar to that of the plain old Mohawk but it is in one spike. Some call this the horn Mohawk.

Modern is called Emo Punk: Hair is layered very short at the top of the crown & teased up so it has height. In some of the hair it is dyed with varying light or dark contrasting colored dyes. Some people call this emo as well but I will let you be the judge.

Scene: Aparently is a combo of Emo Punk and more then one color with some spikiness in some place.

Coon tail or Coontail is a term used for hair that has been dyed in rows of two different colors often a blonde/blond color on dark hair or the reversed. The look resembles a coon tail thus the name Coontail or Coon Tail.

The closest I got to a punk hairstyle was getting my hair cut very short and spiky.

A very informative hub.

My daughter first started begging for bright colors a couple of years ago. I have to admit, she looks great with a spash of turquoise and purple in the front. (shhh...don't tell her, I didn't like the pink as much.)

Fun punk hair looks on this hub! You should go to YouTube and add an eighties video. This is a great hub now, but the video would really go with this theme.
