Allergy Sufferers: There is hope! (By Jodi M)
59Allergy Season Blues
If you suffer from seasonal allergies, you are definitely not alone. The phrase “allergy season” is up there with “tax season”, “finals week”, and “the yearly visit with the in laws” when it comes to dreadful times. Allergies affect millions of Americans every year. Although there is no way to eliminate allergies altogether, there are some things you can do to avoid some of the most common allergens.
Allergy Myth Buster
When it comes to allergies, you may have been misinformed about some things. Firstly, you may have heard that allergy shots are the "miracle cure" but this isn't necessarily true. Your body may develop a tolerance to the shots over time and the shot isn't effective on all people. Because of this, it is usually only used on people who have adverse reactions to allergy medicines. Many people think there is no natural remedy for allergies, but there is a new ingredient produced by Embria Health Sciences called EpiCor. EpiCor's immune-balancing properties are perfect for people with allergies. You may also be under the impression that your allergy medicine may become less effective over time but that is not the case. Allergy medicines treat the symptoms of allergies, but don't make your body any less allergic. As the medicine wears off, you may experience symptoms again, but that doesn't mean the medicine isn't working. Also, you may be experiencing a common cold, not just allergies. People with allergies are far more susceptible to colds, so you may need to take a cold and flu syrup to relieve your symptoms.
Avoiding Allergens
There are many different things that can create an allergic reaction in your body. Once you know what you're allergic to, you can take precautions to avoid coming in contact with them. To avoid pollens, it’s good to shower at bedtime in order to wash off pollen and other allergens in your skin or hair. You can minimize the amount of mold in your house by frequently washing shower curtains, windows, and other places where mold may grow. Opening doors and window and using fans can also increase air movement and prevent mold. Unfortunately the only way to avoid pet dander is to give away your pets, or stay away from other people’s as much as possible. No matter how cute Rover and Trixy are, they won’t help your allergies. As for dust mites, frequently cleaning carpets and curtains, and dusting walls and other surfaces will reduce your allergies.
