Women with breast cancer already have many things to think about.  Some of the questions reside around traditional breast cancer therapies, like chemotherapy or radiation therapy but the other question that comes up is whether alternative treatments for breast cancer are a good idea. After all, radiation for breast cancer may not be the best thing for you.

There is a lot of interest as far as breast cancer treatments and studies are still happening as far as whether alternative treatments work, but the best use of alternative treatments may actually just be to help relieve the side effects of traditional breast cancer therapy. Breast cancer medication are also things that are considerations.

Because there is no cure for cancer women are increasingly looking into alternative breast cancer treatments.  However, even with this growing interest the alternative breast cancer treatment field is very unregulated.  Because the field of breast cancer treatments is unregulated when it comes to alternative measures many women are confused as to which breast cancer treatments actually work and what these kinds of breast cancer treatments actually do.

So, what are and what is alternative breast cancer treatment?

In general, alternative refers to nontraditional breast cancer treatment.  Usually, if you chose alternative breast cancer care, this breast cancer treatment means giving up chemotherapy and radiation.  However, it is a more common understanding that cancer patients use complementary therapies which means that there are some alternative cancer treatments that are used in addition to the traditional cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation.  The important point to remember is that these therapies are not substitutes for replacements for chemotherapy and radiation.

A much better way to consider looking at this is using an integrated style of medicine.  That means that both traditional and complementary treatments are used together.  This holistic approach to medicine looks at the disease and how it affects the entire person including the spirit, the body and the mind.

It is important to understand that proof that any of these alternative types of breast cancer treatment is hard to come by.  In general, was the evidence available points in favor of the complementary therapies for breast cancer treatment as only relieve the side effects of traditional therapy.
