56Alternative Medicine, sometimes called Complementary Medicine, is a discipline that encompasses fields such as naturopathy, homeopathy and chiropractic medicine for the treatment of sickness and disease. The roots of Alternative Medicine extend as far back as pre-modern medicine, Native American healing practices, meditation and prayer-based healing, and myriad other systems created for the sole purpose of alleviating sickness and improving health and well-being as well as, for instance, natural child protection. Alternative Medicine has experienced a renaissance of sorts in the past decade as people pursue greater control over their own well-being.
Alternative medicine, at its core, is the understanding that mainstream medicine is necessary and beneficial for the diagnosis of illness and disease but can be used safely and effectively in conjunction with Alternative medications and treatment plans. Taking the synthetic and chemical-based pharmaceuticals out of the diagnosis/treatment equation is simply a return to an earth and body-centered lifestyle.
The idea that Alternative Medicine Products, in conjunction with a healthy lifestyle in partnership with the medical profession, can be positive, successful, and natural means by which one can improve and maintain good health, restore good energy is now commonly accepted. Most top medical schools are now offering and requiring our future physicians to study and implement Alternative Medicine. Professional, political, educational and government organizations are now including the study and application of Alternative Medicine as part of the mainstream.
