Alzheimer's disease is the degenerative disease of the brain. Alzheimer is a progressive degenerative illness in which the main symptom is memory loss.

Cause of AD is unknown but the two risk factors have been identified;

  • Advanced age
  • Genetic predisposition

Symptoms of Alzheimer:

  • Loss of memory, so thinking ability is also lost.
  • There are time and space perception disorders.
  • Impairment of language
  • Abstract reasoning
  • Personality changes, from apathy to restless agitation.
  • Loss of sphincter control.
  • Change in personality and character.

Senility. The symptoms of early senility are very similar to those of Alzheimer's Disease, however the cause is different. A micro embolism, cerebral aneurysm, or any other cause which obstruct oxygenation and the flow of nutrients on the brain may provoke senility, whereas the causes of alzheimer's seem to come from another source.

Causes of Alzheimers : The cause of this disease is still being studied. Nevertheless, some possible causes do exist :

  • Low level of some nutrients such as Vitamin B12 and Zinc.
  • Low levels of antioxidants, Vitamin A, C, E.
  • Aluminum. In autopsies done on persons who suffered from this disease, high levels of aluminum have been found in the areas of the brain responsible for memory, such as the hippocampus. Another metal attributed as a cause of this disease in mercury, principal originating in dental fillings.

Treatment : The basic nutrients which have been found to help inhibit the deterioration caused by alzheimer's disease and senility are :

  • Gingko Biloba - plays an important role in stimulating circulation in the brain which is responsible for transporting oxygen and other nutrients to the neurons. A great number of studies done demonstrate the efficiency of this plant in the treatment of Alzheimer's and senility.
  • Acetylcholine - substance is an important neuro-transmitter for communication between neurons. The brain forms from acetyl and choline. Bee pollen is rich in these substances.
  • Antioxidants - are another recommended component for protecting the brain from damage caused by oxidation due to free radicals. Some of the important antioxidants are; Vitamin A, C, E.
  • The B Complex is very essential for the proper function of neurons, mainly Vitamin B12 since it intervenes in the formation of neurotransmitters and the protective layer of the nerves, myelin.
  • Alcohol, cigarettes, etc. should be avoided.
