Amazing Little Birds
58In my recent move to the Appalachian Mountains I put a flower pot by my front door that I had placed on a tiny cabinet. The flower pot has been there since the summer of 2007. I didn't plan on putting a plant in it but rather put it there so that I could light a stick of incense to keep the mosquitos away. As soon as this winter ended and the grass began to grow, I noticed some pieces of grass inside this flower pot. I thought that one of my other family members may have placed the pieces of grass in there (even though I also thought it would be a strange thing for them to do) so I didn't mention it. A couple of days later I noticed more grass inside the flower pot and I asked why it was there. I was advised that they thought I had put the grass inside the flower pot. Now that we knew that none of us put the grass there, we started to wonder how it got there. The next morning we saw a tiny little bird (sparrow) with grass and twigs in its mouth standing on the deck near the flower pot while another tiny little bird was standing near by moving its head back and forth. We then saw the little bird with the grass and twigs jump into the flower pot. To our amazement we realized they were building a nest right before our eyes. The next few days were amazing as we peeked through our front door blinds and watched this event. One day when I was leaving the house and locking my front door, I was startled by this tiny bird flying out of the flower pot. It scared me and I am sure I scared it too. I knew at that moment that I would have to move this flower pot away from my front door. After much consideration, I moved it right under the front window, away from the front door. That same night I noticed the little birds back with more twigs and grass and also one watching out for the other one while this nest was being built. Before long, almost the entire flower pot was filled with pieces of twigs, grass, and other things. We are now waiting for the birth of these little birds. We are all amazed with their creativity in creating such a safe nest for their new borns, their sense of being a family and how they watch out for one another. They never went to school or do they have a college degree, they do not have a crew or team of other birds behind them, and there were no written plans for them to show them which way each twig should be placed to make the nest secure. I didn't see a bird real estate agent showing them that this would be the best location for them to move in. Nor were there any bird doctors helping them with their pregnancy procedures. These little birds did it all on their own. Or did they???? They could not have done this without the help of The Master Designer. "His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me." Matthew 6:26 - Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Luke 12:6-8 - Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
