Have We All Gone Mad?

Wikipedia - Traditionally, "the behavior whereby a person flouts societal norms and becomes a danger to himself and others." But what happens when society has lost its norms? I personally favor "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results" as a perfectly adequate description.

This odd idea came to me tonight while I watched as my 3-year old daughter tried over and over again to put on her pajama top. "I'll do it myself!" she said so I watched to see what she would do. Holding the shirt in front with it facing her, she then flipped it over her head and tried to put in her arms. Again and again she tried to put it on this way, each time the shirt fought back (it was inside-out after all). How many of us do this same thing?

Addicts

Aren't addicts somewhat insane by this definition? The drug/alcohol addict tries to bury the pain or memory, but it never works for long and soon they need another fix. The sex addict does the same thing, moving from one destructive relationship to another seeking fulfillment but always disappointed in the end. Food addiction, even caffeine addiction (many will argue this with me I'm sure) always ends in a let-down - so we try it again, eating more comfort food or drinking another coffee to perk us up!

Politics

The political world is even worse! Democrats continue pushing legislation for health care, unemployment, and other social programs that have failed over and over again in other countries while taxing the poor deeper into poverty. Do we never learn? Republicans are no different! Republicans push a National Security agenda that has taken away more freedoms than any socialist ideal ever has. Doesn't anyone remember Hitler? Can't we see that we're on the same path heading for the same pit? When will we stop voting for the same forms of oppression we claim to be against?

"Propaganda is neutrally defined as a systematic form of purposeful persuasion that attempts to influence the emotions, attitudes, opinions, and actions of specified target audiences for ideological, political or commercial purposes through the controlled transmission of one-sided messages (which may or may not be factual) via mass and direct media channels. A propaganda organization employs propagandists who engage in propagandism—the applied creation and distribution of such forms of persuasion."

~R.A. Nelson, A Chronology and Glossary of Propaganda in the United States, 1996

"The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting." - Sun Tzu (400-430 B.C.) The Art of War

Gun Control

This insanity covers both sides of the isle but is generally on the left. When did we forget that Hitlers first move for "national security" was to disarm the population? When did we forget that Paul Pot's first move was to disarm the population? When did we forget that Stalin's first move was to disarm the population? Millions of people were subsequently slaughtered in this century once those countries were disarmed, all in the name of National Security! Why can't anyone remember this? Why is the same rhetoric being spewed again and again? Someone shut those insane idiots up before Britain, Canada, and Australia become completely brainwashed into giving up the precious few rights they have left - or worse their doctrines spread to America! Has anyone noticed the horrific rise in crime in these three "free" countries recently?

Yet the world keeps using the same systems over and over again. It makes you wonder, is there an agenda at work here? Make no mistake about it: You are a Mind Control subject.

If you don’t learn how to take control of your mind, someone else will.

You have hit the nail on the head my friend. I agree whole heartedly. I just wish that more people could see outside of the blue and red of politics and vote for a third party. That would be the only way that any real change can be made. I hope that this comment inspires you to write at least another hub of this quality. I also hope that you will see fit to take the time to check out a couple of my hubs such as America the New Rome. I touch on the same sort of subject material in a number of my hubs and would love to hear what you think about them.

If a third party wants to step up then that third party needs to start creating a track record and establish themselves. They can't fall for the "one-side messaging" technique that seems to aggravate so many people. There are always two sides, you just have to look for them and as an American I will look for them. If a third party can show me what they can do, I will support it, but sadly, I don't see that happening.

Thanks Agro - I'll come over and check out your Hubs.

Gregory - there are examples of third party success. Look at what Ron Paul has done for Texas! What if he were elected (albeit he ran as a Republicrat), what could he do for the whole country?

All I'm saying is that I see things going from bad (Clinton era) to worse (Bush Era). Inflation continues on an upward climb since we "accepted" the printing of money by the Fed and there's no sign of the economy ever getting better. Like it or not, you are being taxed at a rate that was once reserved for the very wealthiest people - all thanks to inflation.

It's time we fired the Feds and their major supporters (Democrats and Republicans) and return to what worked before they took over our Country!

mind control is another term for common sense. use it. that's all i think we need to do is use the brain god gave us to decide if what we hear is ringing true and hold it up to the light, research it, then decide. that's pretty easy if you take the time to do it.

Who's common sense, your very own or the sense you have given the misinformation you're routinely fed? Fitting that the word Propaganda in western civilization was coined by the Jesuits, don't you think?

I agree that this country is heading down a slippery slope with our ridiculous political infighting and attempts at censorship and gun control. I think until everyone can realize that we are meant to be free thinking, rational individuals and make the necessary changes in our government we will continue to suffer. Overall, a good post. I enjoyed reading it.

Well all I can say is kudos!! And as far as gun control that is very touchy thing to me. The only way they will get my gun is out of my cold dead hand. I take it out to clean it , I dont hunt at least not atm but the option is there. Nice little snipit here wish more people could think on their own without having to be told what to think.

Wow! How right you are! We keep going on these vicious circles and scream because we find ourselves in the same place.

You have just scratched the surface and yet you seem reluctant to dive all the way in. Everything is a drug. Some just more potent than others. Searching for norms is a mental condition. One cannot know what it is like to jump out of a plane until one has tried. If someone hasn't jumped out of a plane would you think them mentally stable if they said "I know what it feels like to jump out of a plane?" or "I can show you how to jump out of a plane". I would hope not. Unless you have experienced something first hand you are oblivious to it's effects. That is the problem with our society. A nation of people who claim to know something about which they know nothing. Claiming to know but never experiencing. How can you speak about addicts unless you have been one? I just passed through but I am to inform you that what you conceive about others you are doing yourself. Take a closer look and go deeper. Unless you prefer to be just as Mad as the rest.

Oh, I have dug deeper and now I'm reluctant to even discuss what I now know as truth. The men whose work I have been studying have all been killed under suspicious circumstances and I'd rather not be next. Paranoid? Perhaps. For now, I'm content to be a small fish in a big pond and happy to be overlooked.
