American Idol Recap: March 25, 2008, Another "Opinion"
57No need for introduction this week. So let's get to the substance at hand.
Last Night's "American Idol" further solidifed David Cook's journey to stardom.
Normally, I'd start this "opinion" with a recap of my top three. But after last night's performance by Mr. Cook, it's clear to me he's beginning to separate from the pack. -- David's rendition of "Billie Jean" left me (in Simon terms), amazed. David swung for the fence and belted one deep! His unique blend of rock star charisma and brilliant delivery will make him a star. Oh, and by the way, did I mention he's from Kansas City? :) -- (Shameless plug I know)
And now I can move on to my remaining top three.
Syesha Mercado:
Another strong performance by Syesha. I was a bit worried by the start but by song's end, she proved her mettle. I really enjoy Syesha's voice and delivery. I'm sure she'll be back. She should be.
Carly Smithson:
I think Carly's great. Even though the judges weren't that impressed last night, Carly still impresses me. Regardless of her late-song run slightly out of tune, Carly's ability to hit notes with power and grace should move her on. I'm not sure what the voters were thinking last week by putting her in the bottom three. In my book she's near the top. She did get bumped from the top spot however. Go Carly!
The Middle Four: (In no particular order)
Chikezie:
I'm not quite sure what to think of Chikezie yet. He seems to bounce styles too much without focusing on his strength, R & B. Ruben Studdard won this competition a few seasons ago doing the Chikezie thing, albeit on a slightly higher level. I feel if he focuses on his style, he'll move on.
Jason Castro:
Jason seemed to be toying with his role as a contestant last night. Nothing in his performance really jumped out and grabbed me. Let's give him another week to prove something other than mediocrity.
Kristy Lee Cook:
Kristy showed me something last night I hadn't seen before, command. Given that she was teetering near elimination last week, Kristy stepped up and increased her stock for sure. I'm looking forward to more improvement next week. I still think country's her gig though.
Michael Johns:
As with Chikezie, the jury is still out for Michael Johns. No doubt he nailed the "We Are the Champions" but the ending sequence was a bit subdued for me. Michael has a great rocker persona which should further his cause in this competition. Song selection for him will be paramount to uproot David Cook.
The Hopeful Three:
David Archuleta:
Boy. Talk about a backslide. I thought little David A. took a serious drift in reverse last night. If I hadn't seen the glimpses of brilliance I saw last week, I'd say his chances of continuing are slim. David has a big heart and a big voice so he gets a free pass this time. Hopefully he bounces back like I know he can.
Brooke White:
Brooke is only here by default. Her performance was fine but didn't completely dazzle me either. I think she'll make it through to next week.
Ramiele Mulabay:
I somewhat feel sorry for Ramiele. She was not feeling up to snuff (or so it's been said), but her performance last night could be her last. Very difficult to say anything more than this. This talented young lady just needs a little more seasoning. Once she does that, she'll be back; On another season that is.
Hopefully the slings and stones are still in the saddle as I've attempted another diplomatic "opinion". Until next week. All other opinions welcome.

OK. Here I go again. Last night's results show once again proved my "opinions" stink. Chikezie I felt was safe. He was not. Ramiele was most deserving of a stool. She didn't get one. And KLC also fell farther than she should. I don't know what to think anymore. The voting public is certainly a fickle bunch. Until next week.
Enjoyable review. I am in agreement with you on David Cook - he did pull out last week, but I think David Archuleta is still going to give him a pretty good run.
Look forward to your review from this week:-)
Write-On!
Carly and Cook are the best in my opinion....Archuletta does have a great voice but he needs to mature in his look. Fun hub, even if I'm almost a month behind in reading it. I saw Sanjaya and his sister two weeks ago performing for a fundraiser for an alternative school arts and music program....they did it for free and it was a Mowtown theme. I was never a fan of his but they are pretty sweet. I know the music industry can be a cruel world. I agree w/ what another hubber in your first post said regarding the judges....I prefer honesty yet there is a way to be honest and not crush peoples spirit....think Brooke this last week was getting really sick of Simon.

I loev the Idol Seasons, my husband and I watch them each year. I'm having a harder time attaching to the contestants this year, they're a bit stiff in their performances, but I mostly agree with you. David Archuleta is my hopeful, I think his power is impressive and his attitude is great for one so young. I think the other guys resent him, but he is going to have to pick better songs if he's going to continue. David Cook is a clear leader. I love Kristy Cook and she is definitely country. What talent - music just flows from her...Brooke White skidded by with the God Bless The USA, Simon was once again right. Isn't he always, almost?
Tonight will tell the tale for the top 10; I love this show! Marisue
