American Pit Bull Terrier

It's in the news all the time the Pit Bull breed is a scary breed, they are killing machines just bred to kill and attack people. But while there may be some bad dogs in the Pit Bull breed, mot all of them are. They are just like any other breed you have some good dogs and some bad dogs. It really all depends on how the dogs are raised from puppies.

The pit bull does have a past that is unique to dog breeds. This breed was once used in the Military their job in the Military was saving lives of soldiers. They have worked with the US Customs office sniffing out bombs and drugs. This breed is a very intelligent breed, smart, strong, and willing to die for the ones that they love now some states are trying to ban the breed totally. The newspapers are creating a major uproar about how vicious these dogs are. While they don't report that it's only less than a percent of all the pit bulls that are attacking. And the owners are really the ones at fault for the behavior of their dogs with the way they were raised. If states are able to ban pit bull breeds they will move on next to other breeds, and other states will follow. Soon most the bigger dog breeds will be banned.

Some states are taking the time to looking at other options instead of the breed being banned, such as limiting the number of pit bulls an owner may own at one time, or a mandatory spay and neuter of all pit bulls.

Problem dogs are not a problem breed. Just because you have a few bad dogs you don't ban the breed. Banning any breed will not list problem dogs as being such. The problem dogs should be identified and the dog owners should be held accountable made to pay extreme fines, attend behavioral classes, or do some types of community work.

And if you are classifying a group of dogs as bad breeds, shouldn't all dogs with teeth as be classified as dangerous? Any breed of dog can bite and do serious damage no matter what size the dog is. All breeds can seriously bite a person. Even cats will bite and cause damage. Will choosing only certain breeds to be classified as a bad breed be a media-based decision? Choosing to tell stories about certain breeds that will increase audience to do only stories on that will make the audience watch and the ratings of that channels go higher?

Pit Bulls are one of the many breeds that seem to get a lot of bad press because of the media they also target German shepherds and other larger animals, such as Dobermans. Mean-tempered and rough looking pit bulls are the status symbol of hip-hop culture. A drug dealer will use pit bulls to control and intimidate the people their area, these dogs are trained and abused to be mean. It's this type of stereotyping that is making the pit bulls reputation bad.

Pit Bulls are not born to be people-aggressive it is the owner of that dog that makes them that way, just like a child is not born to be prejudice, it is taught that, with neglect and abuse any animal will become aggressive. This is what is causing the breed's reputation to deteriorate rapidly. People who are uninformed about the breed quickly jump to conclusions and want to destroy the entire breed thinking that the entire breed is dangerous. It's not the breed that is bad. Ban the owners that make these dogs appear dangerous or ones that treat the dogs in such a way that they learn to become dangerous animals.

Banning the entire breed of certain breeds of dogs is not the solution, a vicious dog can be any breed of dog, and it's just that they don't make the evening news when the attack. But because it's a breed that is on the "bad breed" list, society now wants the dog to automatically be put down without giving the individual dog a chance.

The Pit bull breed is loyal, strong and devoted. Like other bigger dog breeds they can be loving and a trusted member of any family. They are easily trainable, and highly intelligent. It is the environment which they have been raised that makes some of these dogs bad. Not all pit bulls are bad dogs, some are heroes, and some gave up their lives to save the lives of their owners. These dogs have saved many lives of soldiers, custom agents, and as therapy dogs going to nursing homes, schools and hospitals. Does this sound like a breed that has nothing but bad dogs? No it doesn't. Let's start focusing on the owners of the dogs that do damage, lets bring them into the spotlight and take the dogs out of the spotlight.

Don't Blame the breed blame the Deed.
