This hub started as a comment in "Why Europe can kiss my Red White and Blue". I started wondering why and how people from USA can be so proud of themselves and love America just the way it is... I mean... you really got to love America or be really broke to live there and support it...
I came up with so many things that I wonder if Americans also love about their country that it would be too big for that comment.
Einstein ? McDonnalds ? Porn ?
Einstein isn't even born in America, and if he was, I'm not sure if he would have the genius gens it took to make him successful as he was. Maybe because of living in America he got contaminated by some sort of American illness that would later make him invent the atomic bomb and tell president Roosevelt about it.
McDonnalds is perhaps the biggest responsible for the disease of the century, not AIDS, obesity! I'm sure you see that the more time passes the more you see people around getting fat and fatter. No wonder those people ate fast food before, also your biggest invention and you might also be proud of it...
Ohh if it wasn't the US revolutionizing porn then young american teenagers would be bothering their parents... So again you came up with a solution!
Those above were reasons nº 2, 4, and 7 of "why europe can kiss their blue white and red"... You guys obviously didn't thought about most of those reasons or perhaps you didn't know that the reasons you think you should be proud of are the same ones you should be ashamed of.

- Not knowing how you embarrass yourselves when you do those lists of what you're proud of;
- Probably not knowing your own history and therefore thinking you should be proud of WWII, which was saved by the USSR;

- Only bringing war to the middle east because of oil... Did you really think there were weapons of mass destruction on Iraq ? WHAT ABOUT NORTH KOREA ?!?!?!?! Ohh I get it, YOU WON'T FIND OIL IN NORTH KOREA!

I live in the USA, and i am ashamed of whats going on here. You have to keep in mind that alot of the people here are not very smart, but it isnt there fault . The powers that be here in america have been systematicly dumbing down the educational system. While at the same time brainwashing people through mindless TV , political and religious propoganda. Its really quite sad. A large amount of the population live in a ignorance of what is really going on in the world. They still beleive that nationalism means something in a globalized world and the powers that be like to keep it that way as it gives them more power over the sheeple. It is true america is not what those sheeple think it is. The only thing people can do is to continue to educate themselves and others, untill hopefully enough people wake up and realize whats going on. Untill then nothing you say will ever slip past the thick brainwashed skulls of the sheeple that propigate the image of america you are refering to.

Credit for helping on the WWII ? USSR had already decapitated the Nazi army in 1943 lool you didn't have to test your big bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki don't you think? In all WWII history I only think you can be proud of the D Day... And let's not forget that in a certain point of view you were the first causers of the WWII! The 'War on terror' led by US has brought significantly more chaos and suffering than terrorism itself.
I still can't accept that the death of hundred of thousands people in Iraq and Afghan is a justification for WTC reprisal.
Ironically, US has spread a huge terror in its fight against terrorism.
Many americans see the Middle Eastern people in too simple way, many Middle Eastern people hated Saddam but in the meantime they also dislike US.
Why middle-eastern people dislike US? Israel! what else? It is the root of all conflict in Middle East.
I guess that it is hard to come to any conclusion with what is going on in the U.S. However, I do feel there are Positives and Negatives whereever we go. I guess with U.S the only thing that bothers me are the decisions made or the bills passed. There was a time when U.S was respected and I definitely agree that U.S had helped many countries at the same time it has equipped many young students to get the education they need.
I guess every part of U.S is different. There is racism everywhere, but it is the way we handle it without making it offensive to other cultures and countries.
Joao, I will start by first thanking you for keeping people's comments up. That takes courage.
However, I do not agree that we should be judged as a people for some of the decisions our Government makes. Once the elected officials are in office, we have many years to vote them out and some damage can be done.
America is a young country. We are a good people, giving to many countries as a nation. Let us unite with other countries and people to solve world problems. Telling us off only provides momentary pleasure; like an addiction, the high requires another one when it disappears.
America is neither right nor wrong much of the time. We are just struggling in a sea of problems and I don't think you know any more than the rest of us how or where the problems exactly originated. I for one, have no problems with any other person from another country that I've met.
I do have problems with people who lump their criticism of our government or "tourists" together into one big slow cooker and turn up the heat. They love to hate.

The moon landing being filmed in a studio is a myth. I cannot believe you actually fell for that same urban legend that has been circulating since 1969! By the way did you know here in Southern California I know many healthy people exercise all the time and who would not eat at McDonald's, which is way too salty for my taste anyway. Loma Linda, California has one of the highest life expectancies on earth and people there are Seventh Day Adventists who eat healthy and exercise. Not all Americans fall into boxed image that you have for them. As long as people are not going to other countries and waving an American flag I think it is fine to be proud of our country. I never like to stereotype, but you have done that way too often here. What do you have against Americans and their patriotism? Really it is not hurting you at all. However, what kind of a picture our you painting for your cause of bringing an end to nationalism? I think you really have undermined your cause with all of the ridiculous comments you make. You quoted juvenile people, which are in every country, when you could have quoted great Americans such as Emerson and Thoreau. I think you have presented your view fairly and with respect to others. Yes I love my country and I am not ashamed to say that, but I also know it has flaws. What Joao fails to realize is that every country has flaws and people will never see your point of view when you make outrageous comments such as he has. Funnebone's hub is great and I do not see why Joao was offended by it especially since he is not European or American. However, I was slightly offended by the other hub that started this entire debate. I left one simple comment about how some European tourists are often rude in the US and other countries just as some American people tend to be in Europe. However, it was deleted because I think that person does not have a very sound argument. I respect this person's viewpoint, but more people would listen to what this person had to say if some comments were not deleted. Actually, I think some of the nicest tourists are Japanese people, but not as many come to California since the economy has worsened. However, I always thought they were very respectful and kind. Japanese tourists would always ask to take pictures and ask about our favorite activities. Another lesson Joao might learn here is the US and Japan have had a very bitter past, but we have been able to resolve this and move forward. The attack on Pearl Harbor was unfortunate and the atomic bomb was a travesty, but our two countries have worked together to forgive and forget. Japanese tourists and Americans visit Pearl Harbor Memorial in droves and I was surprised when I first visited how there actually more Japanese than Americans at the site that day. Every country has had sad moments and bad ones, but when you focus on everything being bad that is all you will get. By the way, I went to some of those people you quoted and those profiles seem to be fake. This would be the equivalent to saying a 16 year old kids with a myspace friend train stands for everyone who uses the Internet.

joaojeronimo I write my hubs to have fun and make people laugh. I don't mind debates and playful bickering but when I see that someone has abnormal emotions about something I just go the other way. You have an undue amount of hate and a false concept of what America is. Some others here are apologetic for whatever reason but I am not. Stutin: My grand parents (my mother's parents) are from India :) I've been there a lot of times and I love Goa (where my family lives). My best friend is now living in Washington DC (Camila.. she went there about a month ago and I miss her a lot..). All I can say is yes Americans went to the moon and it is not a myth. I think NASA realized going to the moon did not really have any purpose and stopped back in 1972. I am not excited by the fact anyone went to the moon, but there is enough evidence to show it really did happen. Quite simply put, it was not a myth. You have the right to an alternate point of view, but with that point of view comes the need to show respect for others. I am sure you would balk if someone wrote a hub about how people from Mozambique should think before they speak, and I really hope no one would write a hub like that because it would be really disrespectful. Nevertheless, you have done that here. Your first comment on Funnebone's hub was very scary and I cannot imagine you would have written that. Was it just for shock value? However, when did I say America was perfect? If you had read everyone that responded you would have seen that all countries have problems too, but you are raking hot coals over any already sensitive topic. I think the way Stutin presented her point of view was honest and objective. Maybe if you had written a hub more in this fashion people would take you seriously. I think in school your teachers are pushing the anti-American propaganda, and I know from experience because even here in American professors do that. Bravo for getting people to think about a serious issue. I agree that America isn't the greatest nation in the world, but I am american. Its kind of like if you started to say nasty things about a member of my family. I can and will only tolerate so much. If the first hub stating that America is the greatest wasnt written I don't think this would be an issue. i believe that you were rightfully upset but may have overly gerneralized a bit too much. In conclusion, I think WWII should be left out of this. Every country has a different take on who the heros were. In the end, we all helped each other out and lost a lot of great people. The first hub written about America is the greatest did not start this, it was the other hub about how American tourists should act better. However, Funnebone never said Americans are the greatest, he just said we our proud of our country. Joao made some hurtful comments on that hub, which I was telling him would have prevented a lot of things. Joao is entitled to his opinion, but I think he should be more respectful like Stutin in his approach.
This hub is a perfect example of how and why in the 21st century, human beings are still killing each other en mass daily.
Ethnocentrism is its many guises keep the people of this beautiful and fragile planet perpetually separated. We are one world. Artificial boundaries created by nations, tribes, cultures and politics are the reason why we can't seem to solve any of our major global issues. If we don't find ways to work together constructively, our children and their children will be left to fend for themselves in a rotting sea of pollution, corruption and despair.
There are plenty of serious issues that WE need to address. For example, global water shortages, hunger, poverty, war and environmental issues just to name a few. These issues are not confined by political boundaries, they are everywhere you look. Divisiveness based on ethnocentrism will be our downfall
I wasn't going to comment on this hub at all. In fact, the whole topic made me angry, but not perhaps why you might think. I wasn't mad about the insults you directed to all Americans, even though I find your judgements to be biased and unfair. I was really angry because as a citizen of the WORLD I have very little power over the malice and hatred that seems to rule over our species. Like most people, I simply want to raise my children in a healthy world where they have the opportunity to live in peace. However simple that dream may sound, we may never see that reality because of bigotry and hatred that spans this planet.

My first comment on funnebone's hub reflects my first reaction and the first thing that came to my mind when I read that hub: "nasty...disgusting..poor americans that think this way". I probably agree that you have nothing against America, but I guess that most of your comments probably are offensive to the readers here. I respect your intentions in posting, but at the same time it is also probably wise and be sensitive to american readers who probably are offended by some of your Posts.
My honest opinion is you should have apologized for that first comment, then I would pretty much have not cared. I write about some topics people consider very controversial myself, like some people hate that I think polygamy should remain illegal in the US.

Joao, I think that many Americans are as baffled and disturbed by some of the things that take place in this country and by our government...but the truth is, if you travel to any country in the world people are fundamentally the same. They are outraged by those who take advantage of the liberties afforded them, who abuse the power they have, and grotesquely flaunt themselves if they think they stand to gain from it. We could list all the countries of the world on a board and check off every heinous, irresponsible thing that the nation (as a recognized collective) has done politically and militarily on a global and domestic scale....and on an age comparison I think you'll find most every country equally guilty. Is this because any one governmental system is better or worse? Or any one religion or culture better or worse? No....its because all of these things are built upon one essential thing: humanity. And humanity as a whole is flawed. It is, however, also absolutely amazing.
Human kind has managed to do some incredible things! We've cured diseases. Found medical techniques that have saved millions from disfigurement, and pain. Men HAVE been to space...something no other creature on this planet can make claim to. And we have learned to reason on a level far beyond that of other species.
It is understandable that the remarks of one loud human can rattle and upset you. It happens to all of us. The trick is to remember...you can rise above it and reason out that the louder their voice does not mean they're right. Focus on those around you and across the world that are doing the RIGHT thing and eventually we can put the others in line.
The divisions we've drawn on this globe are completely inconsequential. We as a SPECIES have to practice civility to maintain a prosperous and benevolent civilization.

Carissa, you make some really stellar points, but I do not think this is a point about anyone being right or wrong- this is about a difference of opinion. In my book it is good to write about topics of passion, but to use the sweetest words possible when doing it. I think I really was nice to let Joao know this. Funnebone is really a nice guy too and his hub was humorous. His humor is edgy for some, but I really appreciate him. No one is wrong here. All differences of opinion.

Overall I agree, however, if you check most back comments of mine, I don't sign off with the LEARN or link .... it's just this HUB did touch upon bad feelings amongst people from different cultures ... therefore, my linking to LEARN.
His link was not spam. People leave links in my hubs all the time, and I know they are spam if they are going to a product or something of that type. However, it is up to the individual hubber to decide whether they want links or not. Joao is pretty good about letting everyone respond to his hubs because a few people delete comments that do not agree with them. At least he actually believes in freedom of speech.

Most reasons you point about why Americans should be ashamed are actually things to be proud of. Yes, America is the land of ingenuity and invention. Most new things (good or bad) come from here and the reason why you are able to write this hub is because Americans invented the Internet and started the computing and Internet boom. There are serious reasons to dislike USA. One of the reasons is its lack of democracy. The real wielders of power within the united States are the big capitalists and the military-industrial complex. They pay big money to the television networks to promote their president of choise. "The richest always win".
United States today is a two party state. It is not very different to a one party state in the sense that the political ideology are nearly the same between the two parties.
There is little pluralism in the political system of United States.
Independently of wich president is chosen, the wars will continue, the torture will continue, The reach for global domination by the United States will continue, the NATOfication of the world will continue. The IMF and the World bank will continue to empoverish nations, the CIA will continue to interfere in the domestic affairs of foreign nations, secret murders, secret bribes, secret everything really...
CIA will never be accountable in any United States court for all of its evils.
Before United States decides it want to wage war against a nation, the president and staff usually stir up the media in order to prepare the United State people mentally for going to war. The media accomplicity in this is quite unresponsible.
All of those evils will continue and the "people" the greater amount of "americans" will not be able to stop those very evils.
The other reason to dislike United States is because they do evil in the world. One of these evil it the willful empoverishing of undeveloped nations. There are three instruments to do this: the IMF, the World bank and the WTO. The World bank give loans to nations in order to create a foreign debts that nations will not be able to pay back. The IMF is the intrument of choise for this, its a dual faced organization. In order for this mechanism tro work perfectly there is a need for a "traitor" agent. The "traitor" agent in this case are the economists raised and educated by the various Catholic Universities in Latin America. Their method of work can be described as such: "steal from the poor to give to the rich".
Today United States Corporations get raw materials for free from Latin America while the various nations are still paying the foregin debt. The measures taken by those nation proposed by the IMF are such that they cannot pay the foreign debt, so they are forced to pay back the debt by "selling off" raw materials such as copper ore, gold ore, and other minerals.
Other evils that undeveloped nations have done is to privatise the national owned industries, thus empoverishing a nation. The most angriyng of all this is that the World bank has granted loans to Facistic dictatorships sponsored by the United States. All actions taken by dictatorships are illegal since a dictatorship by itself is an illegality. So loans taken by nations during a dictatoship should not count as an legitimate thing.
Another reason to dislike United States is because of its hipocrisy. The war on terror. Lets begin by prosecuting the Terrorists sponsored by United States first shall we? .... -> impossible! its impossible !!Its Damned Impossible !!!
All because of the "National Security" dogma.
So, how do you fight agains this oppresive eagle? - the answer is simple: you cannot! they control everything!
The worlds mightiest army. Any movement who seeks to distribute wealth move evenly between the poor and the rich and to establish free healthcare and free education for all people, so that the rich pay more taxes is seen as either socialism or communism and its something that the CIA must combat.
The riches of undeveloped nations should be owned by the nation so that the benefit of it comes to the majority of its people so that the nation can be strong and able to support its people for the sake of the people. In order to archieve this nationalization is a necessity. However those measures will always ANGER United States in a great way because thay want to be owner of the riches of other nations.
Now, my own point of view may be viewed as biased towards socialism/communism. Will the CIA target me now? - probably! but do i care? - NO!

So I live in the good old USA and try to make a difference everyday in defending and promoting capitalism, individual responsibility, and democracy. It is a hard fight but worth it. 1. It seems that you took issue with the author of a particular hub; why have you created a hub with such an offensive title?
2. Shouldn't you be taking issue with authors of such hubs instead of offending so many other people who had no hand in creating such hubs?
3. Have you come to realize that there are more constructive ways to communicate your personal views and opinions with others?

Sadly, what is happening, is that instead of HubPages' international community coming together as writers, we seem to be drifting farther apart.
We all need to stop doing this, and I am certainly not saying I'm an innocent by-stander, I was just as angry as anyone else. But, look at us: We are spewing ignorant, stereotypical hatred at each other. I would like to think we are better than this.

I can't believe some of you. Making excuses? I am as peaceful as they come, but I can't stand my fellow Americans joining in on this guys foolish articles. He lives in Mozambique, how much does he really know about our country? Probably about as much as we know about his. I can see why our image may be diluted by actions of the government, but if you sit on your butt at your computer and join in on these comments then you are a lame individual and should question your own individuality as an American.

Whatever happened to the warm, loving and fun filled Hub community that nurtured good writing and ignored the stuff that did not please them. There's a lot of opinions on this hub! The most important one is that we are human beings and we should learn to get along with different, nations, tribes and people.
I think there are very educated points made by Hexxor or rather actual facts.

Actually you are wrong. There is overwhelming evidence of heroin being smuggled here by the U.S. Gov and there is a whole lot of evidence that we did in fact plan the attack of the world trade center. Saddam Hussein has probably done equal amounts of torture and rape as we have.
I want to state here again that the biggest need is to unite as humans. With that it is important for us U.S. citizens to take back our government!
I know what I said is controversial but it is not without merit. Many chemists, scientists, eyewitnesses all have their own websites/documentaries explaining how WTC went down due to other reasons aside from the airplanes. It is actually well known.
It is supposedly unpatriotic to speak about it, probably why there are not more posts. Also check out winter soldier, a conference after the veterans of this Iraq war came back and gave speeches on some of the horrible things they were asked to do.
Additionally the government paid RAND corp. has concluded that about 12,000 soldiers a year that come back attempt suicide and 6,000 a year post Iraq are successful.

I believe what makes the U.S. great is how people have stood up and made changes through grassroots organizing.
I have another theory about the diversity in free speech here but perhaps I should state it in a separate hub.
I think the majority of people who disagree with this hub would be happy to 'end this' if you added a statement to this hub that acknowledges that this hub is a stereotype of Americans. Some of what you said may apply to some Americans, but not to every single American within the U.S.
For example:

In the US people traumatised and feel useless after serving their country!

I agree with the first two things you said. America does need a new (mental and physical) health care system especially for our vets. But, while some people in America don't care about politics, there are a lot of people who do care and actively try to change policies.
I don't have time to go over everything you said - basically, you have some points but they are wasted when you generalize or stereotype.
Blackbird, I explained well that the only purpose this hub was written was to be the exact opposite of funnebone's hub. I realize I generalized things, but so has funnebone when he made it look like the US is the best of the world and Americans are great. He also sure has some points there, but also wasted when he says ALL americans are great. I did the exact opposite, and have said this many times before.
