America's Best Dance Crew

Episode 2 of Season Four of MTV's America's Best Dance Crew saw the remaining 8 crews battling it out in the Beyonce' Challenge. Mario Lopez announced that top two vote-getters from last week would automatically move to next week's challenge. They were We Are Heroes and Rhythm City. The first to perform in the Beyonce' Challenge was We Are Heroes.

We Are Heroes

We Are Heroes received their challenge from a recorded message from Beyonce' telling them they would be performing to her hit, "Single Ladies". The challenge was to incorporate strobe effects into the grinding movement Beyonce' made in her video.

We Are Heroes was a bit concerned about the dance moves required while wearing heels. They managed a very upbeat and clean routine that the judges seemed to enjoy. Shane and Little Mama each had their favorite slo-mo moves.

Rhythm City

Rhythm City received their challenge from the pop diva Beyonce' telling them they would be performing to "Sweet Dreams" and would need to incorporate the Charleston dance into their routine.

Rhythm City did find the Charleston challenge difficult, but what they may have lacked in routine, they made up for in creativity. Their routine began with a bedroom scene with two women and one man covered up in bed. Faces and hands were pressing against the wall behind them. People came out from under the bed. They incorporated the dream and nightmare elements of the song well and even snuck in a Michael Jackson Thriller move.

Massive Monkees

Massive Monkees learned from a recorded message from Beyonce' that their routine would be to "Work it Out" and their challenge was to incorporate a hula-hoop into their routine.

Rehearsal found them fumbling for ways to effectively incorporate the hula-hoop into their challenge. I think they played it too safe in their routine by primarily holding the hula hoops too much. At one point, one of the members jumped through four hula hoops with another member jumped over four and that was a nice touch. The routine ended with one member actually utilizing the hula hoop the way it was designed. It was too little, too late for my tastes. I think they could have done better on wardrobe choices this week as well. I guess sweatbands and knee-high tube socks just don't do it for me.

Beat Ya Feet Kings

Beat Ya Feet Kings learned that their routine would be performed to "Crazy in Love" and their challenge was to incorporate the "Uh Oh" Dance into their routine. I think the female felt pretty confident she could pull this off, but the guys weren't so sure.

I think they made some very wise choices by making the female the center of attention. One of the things that concerned me about them last week is that she seemed to try too hard to blend as one of the boys. I worried that she wouldn't show her feminine side with all the really girly sexy types in this season's crews. I think they certainly played up to their strengths and hid their weaknesses. They really aced this challenge and showed me a side I was glad they have.

Set Up For Elimination

Mario Lopez announced that one of the next two crews would go on to next week and the other would move to the elimination round. It was between Afroborike' and Southern Movement. Southern Movement will be on next week and Afroborike moved to the bottom two.

Next, it was between Vogue Evolution and Artistry in Motion. Vogue Evolution advances to next week and Artistry in Motion moved to the elimination round in the bottom two.

Southern Movement

Southern Movement received their challenge from Beyonce' where she told them they would be performing to "Jumpin' Jumpin'" by Destiny's Child. Their challenge was to incorporate the bounce, the shake, the twist and the dip.

I really enjoy watching this group perform. I agree with the judges this week in that they just didn't do anything extremely difficult other than the girl being tossed in the air at the end. She was a bit rough on the landing, but it was ok. I think they're going to have to push themselves a bit more next week.

Being a country gal from Texas, I appreciate the hats and jeans, but I really would like to see them dress it up a bit. Go with some black or white felt hats and some crisp starched Wrangler jeans. Chaps wouldn't be bad either.

Vogue Evolution

Vogue Evolution received it's challenge from Beyonce' which was to perform to "Deja Vu" and incorporate the African roots of dancing.

Leiomy Maldonado is the transgender female of the group and she did an outstanding job performing as Beyonce'. I think this group has a lot to offer ABDC and it's viewing public. They seem to be extremely well received by the studio audience. I think they should be cautious about over-doing it with Leiomy. She is certainly an asset, but I'm afraid the other members of the crew may suffer in the background if all eyes are always on Leiomy's antics.

Artistry in Motion

Artistry in Motion received their challenge from Beyonce' where she told them they would be performing to "Diva" and would need to incorporate them holding a chain, all at the same time, into their routine.

I think this was probably the most difficult challenge issued. I think the ladies handled the challenge well, but I felt that their use of the chain was very distracting.

Afroborike'

Afroborike' received their challenge from Beyonce' and learned that they would be dancing to "Beautiful Liar" and would need to incorporate some hip action, similar to belly dancing, into their routine. Was this really a challenge for the hoochie mama hip-swinging salsa dancers? Hardly.

I do agree with the judges that this is an incredibly sexy group. They do have an even mix of male and female attractiveness. I think they are very good at what they do, but I'm not quite sure they're ABDC winning material. Time will tell. So far, they've not shown much more than some sexy salsa moves better suited for another dance show. Perhaps future challenges will allow them to show us more of what they've got.

The Final Showdown for the Bottom Two Teams

With Artistry in Motion having just performed to Beyonce's "Diva" and Afroborike' having just performed to "Beautiful Liar", the two teams now stood together on the stage with Mario Lopez. Which team would go home and which team would spend one more week in the competition?

The team that will appear in next week's show is Afroborike'. Artistry in Motion was given a few words and they were grateful for the opportunity and were proud of what they were able to show the world. They were proud to represent the women who are often looked down upon for their size. With tear-filled eyes they left the stage as their banner fell.
