America's Best Dance Crew
America's Best Dance Crew

MTV's America's Best Dance Crew-Season 4-Episode 3 saw seven remaining crews. They are:

  • Afroborike
  • We Are Heroes
  • Vogue Evolution
  • Rhythm City
  • Massive Monkees
  • Southern Movement
  • Beat Ya Feet Kings

This week's challenge was the Martial Arts Challenge. Each team must incorporate a specific martial arts movement into their routine. To help the crews with this challenge was last season's Quest Crew member Steve Terada.

Afroborike-Capoeira

Afroborike was the first crew to receive their martial art style that they must incorporate into their routine. Steve Terada explained that they must incorporate Capoeira. Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art form.

I was glad to see Afroborike wearing a bit more clothing for this routine. I felt like they have finally started to add some choreography other than salsa dancing. For their ending, the three guys jumped to the floor in front of the stage and the girls jumped into their arms and the guys sat them on the table in front of the judges. I thought that was a bit much. Catching them in front of the judges would perhaps have been enough. To carry them to the judges seemed rather "sacrificial".

However, the judges came down pretty harshly on them. Shane said their "routine was boring, choreography was weak, and their was no energy." They were advised to turn it up next week.

Afroborike's Week 3 Performance

We Are Heroes-Karate

We Are Heroes had to incorporate karate moves into their routine. Steve Terada explained that karate utilizes low stances and powerful hits.

We Are Heroes did a great job incorporating the flying fists into their routine. Their costumes had an oriental flare that went well with the martial arts theme.

I agree with the judges that the pendulum/gong they created at the end was a bit clumsy. Of all their performances to date, I was impressed with this one the least.

We Are Heroes' Week 3 Performance

Vogue Evolution-Kung Fu

Vogue Evolutionwas advised that they were to incorporate Kung Fu into their dance routine. Kung Fu movements included tiger-type movements and claw motions.

Vogue Evolution began their routine with Leiomy Maldonado in a cage. I think their choice of distressed denim jeans and golds and browns was a great choice. I think this performance was their best to date. Leiomy didn't steal the scene this time. They worked well together and the guys really performed well.

Shane hated the performance while Lil Mama and JC enjoyed it.

Massive Monkees-Extreme Martial Arts

Massive Monkees challenge was to incorporate Extreme Martial Arts into their routine. Extreme Martial Arts is defined as rapid fire acrobatic style martial arts. One high flying kick in this group is called the 540.

I found their costume choice to be boring in color and style, but I did like that they were dressed alike. I felt that their routine was very energetic and entertaining.

The judges came down pretty harshly because their routine called for 540 kicks and only one member of the group incorporated one. They were advised to be sure to meet the challenge next week.

Massive Monkees' Week 3 Performance

Beat Ya Feet Kings-Tae Kwan Do

Beat Ya Feet Kings had to incorporate Tae Kwan Do into their routine. Tae Kwon Do utilizes swift footwork and sweeps. They decided to incorporate the foot fake.

Beat Ya Feet Kings can do some impressive things with their feet, but I really think they held back on this performance. I expected so much more from them. I think the last thirty seconds of the routine was the best. I thought their routine lacked complexity. It seemed like something you'd see at a high school aerobics class. They are going to have to get back to their footwork if they intend to stay in the game.

Shane told them it's time the crews start giving America what they want and to step it up.

Beat Ya Feet Kings' Week 3 Performance

Rhythm City-Muay Thai

Rhythm City's martial arts challenge was to incorporate Muay Thai into their performance this week. Muay Thai is a Thailand's version of boxing where you use your elbows, knees, and shins.

By far, I think this was Rhythm City's best performance to date. I think they picked an excellent soundtrack and having the key person dressed in yellow was a smart move while the others work grays. The contrast was perfect. The routine was energy-packed and flawless.

Rhythm City's Week 3 Performance

Southern Movement-Kali

Southern Movement had to incorporate Kali into their routine for the Martial Arts Challenge. Kali involves the use of a weapon. In this case, they would be using a stick.

A prop always poses an additional challenge since it's very difficult to keep from dropping a prop.

I was glad to see that they ditched the straw cowboy hats this week. However, I don't think their wardrobe choice fit the challenge or the song choice. I think the song was a good choice for use with the sticks. I think this week's challenge caused them to lose their own style. They handled the prop well, but I was disappointed with the routine.

Southern Movement's Week 3 Performance

The Elimination

The two crews who received the least amount of votes from the previous week were Southern Movement and Rhythm City. After performing tonight, the judges could only choose one team to move to next week. All the judges agreed that these two performances were the best two of the evening.

Rhythm City advances to next week, while Southern Movement saw their banner fall.

I was very impressed with the grace in which they accepted the news and how they left the stage. Southern Movement was definitely one of my top favorites. I hated to see them go so soon.

LOL....I like We Are Heroes, but they didn't get the votes last week that they needed. They are really going to have to step it up and win the hearts of more people if they are going to stay in the game.

Good Hub. I really don't have a favorite this season but it looks like Massive Monkees might win.

Thanks Louidam. My favorite was Southern Movement, but now that they're out, I'm really fond of Massive Monkees. I do think they stand a good chance to win it. Stay tuned each week as give a review of that week. We're up to episode 6 this Sunday night. The show airs earlier this week than usual.
