Hotel Monte Vista, Flagstaff, AZ
Hotel Monte Vista, Flagstaff, AZ

There's something about Arizona that seems to attract ghosts. I don't say that they take roadtrips or catch the Ghost Express to come visit, but you gotta admit that Arizona has more than it's fair share of haunted locations.

And the most grand and most haunted of all the ghost towns and mansions and ruins and inns is the historic Hotel Monte Vista. Sighted apparitions include a bank robber who bled to death in the hotel lounge in 1970, a couple of prostitutes who died after being thrown out fo Room 306 in the early 1940s, a phantom bellboy who knocks on doors nd stands outside room 210, the meanman in room 220, the rocking chair in room 305, a little boy wandering the halls, a baby in the basement, and a dancing couple in the cocktail lunge.

Plus there's lots of voices and poltergiests moving stuff around. LIke I said, it's not only one of the most haunted hotels in Flagstaff, but one of the most haunted places you'll find anywhere. The Monte Vista, built in 1926, has piled up so many tragic incidents over the years, that it is now groundzero for all kinds of spirits and wandering souls. The ones without bodies, I mean.

The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado, is a celebrity haunted hotel. Meaning that it's a star in it's own right, having been host to Stephen King, who was inspired to write the 'Shining' in room 217.

You can experience intense paranormal activity on the fourth floor, with persistent reports of sounds of children playing, even when there are no children. Room 418 is supposedly the center of all this activity.

And F.O. and Flora Stanley, who built the hotel, have also been sighted to hang around in the lobby and the music room.

If you're interested in ghosts & spirits, or would like to simply enjoy an adventure, there's no other Colorado hotels better suited for a ghostly vacation than the Stanley.

The hotel even offers professional ghost tours through time and space, which includes a 1900's history tour to the beginnning of the hotel in 1909, a visit to Stephen King's room, ghost stories and sightings, peek into the hotel's most haunted rooms and corners, and a creepy walk through an underground tunnel.

The Crescent Hotel & Spa in Eureka Springs, AR, is another prime example of haunted abodes in Arizona. The hotel, built in 1886, has a long and fascinating history of guests who came for a vacation in the Ozarks, but never left the premises.

Pots and pans fly in the kitchen, a mission ghost named Miss Theodora - of room 419 - speaks to people at the end of hall down from the bar upstairs, and as you can see in the picture, two orbs show up on the beds sometimes, which spooked even the house cat. There's dozens and dozens of stories and sightings and pictures reported by many, many guests.

If it is available, you want to stay in room 218, which seems to be the HQ of the Crescent's ghostly brigade. The hotel also offers ghost tours and special ghost packages, if you're looking for some summer fun and close encounters with the spiritual inhabitants of the twilight zone between heaven and earth.

And in case you're not satisfied, here's a list of every haunted hotel in America. Boo!
