Let me tell you about my beloved ROCKY.... He was so beautiful and strong that no other name would do! I still can't beleive my champ got knocked out by his very own trusted cat food (Nutro, Natural Choice). For any of you who need to put a claim for the loss or illness directly caused by any cat foods, please visit www.progressivelaw.com to get in on a class action lawsuit.
Rocky had a really horrible experience that lasted a whole month. From constant vet visits to severe abdominal pain and internal bleeding. On January 6th 2007, on Rocky's first vet visit, my vet asked me point blank if my cat had gotten into any rat poisoning? Being that Rocky is an indoor cat, the question then seemed almost absurd to me. I assured my vet that this couldn't possibly be the case and pushed for other possibilities. My vet took x-rays and a urine sample because I had originally taken him in due to finding blood in his urine. The x-rays showed a dark mass inside him that the vet explained was blood. He gave Rocky a vitamin K shot which is used as an anti-coagulant for pets that have ingested rat poisoning just to be on the safe side. The vet, felt that this could have all been symptoms of a urinary track infection.
After taking Rocky home, things didn't get any better. I ended up taking him back to the vet four more times, each time growing less and less patient and realizing that whatever was wrong with my cat was serious and could end up killing him. I asked the vet what I should do and he suggested valium!!! I thought he must be crazy because my cat was already not moving at all. All he would do was look at me with these eyes that screamed...help me!
I ended up getting a second opinion but nothing seemed to make sense. This vet felt that Rocky most likely had a urinary track infection but I knew that it was something much deeper because the blood was not coming from his bladder but from his kidneys. Rocky went home and just sat in his litter box for another two days. I was forcing him to drink water with a syringe and feeding him yogurt. I was a mess! I missed work on one occasion because I didn't want him to die while I was at work.
The following morning, I ended up taking him back to the hospital for a final ray of hope. The doctor called me around 10am to let me know that Rocky's vitals seemed to improve but that a cathater had to be placed into his bladder to drain the blood. I finally felt a sense of relief.
Two hours later I would get a call at work that Rocky had taken a turn for the worse! The vet could not explain why Rocky was losing so much blood and told me that he would need a blood transfusion immeadiately to keep him alive. While the staff was getting Rocky ready to be transported, his heart gave out and the doctor miraculasly revived him. I was a complete mess and was ushered into a room, thinking that my only option now would be to put him down. I felt so sick and shocked. When I asked my vet what he thought, he said that he still felt Rocky had a chance! I couldn't believe what he was telling me...my cat just died and came back to life and he still felt he had a chance!!! I couldn't give up on him now, we've come too far.
So there I was, driving like a mad woman with Rocky in the carpool lane. I knew that any cop who would pull me over would take one look at me and let me go. I was talking to him the whole time and hardly remember lever looking straight ahead at the road. I felt so scared and in a daze. 15 minutes into the drive I remember Rocky looking right at me with his big beautiful eyes and telling me goodbye. What would follow next would haunt me for the rest of my life... Rocky was choking and fighting to take his last breaths. I was crying, yelling and saying, Please God..no. But, by the time I got from the carpool lane all the way to the emergency lane, Rocky had passed away. He died exactly one month after his first vet visit on February 6th 2007. My baby was gone from this life forever and all because his food was allowed to make the shelves. His last days on this earth were a constant battle and an emotional roller coaster to all that loved him. He will be missed and there will be hell to pay for this cruel injustice.
May God bless all of you who have suffered in one way or another. Do not let this go unanswered, speak up and take action so that we can all finally have closure and begin to heal.
I love you Rocky and will miss you always.
