Ametrine Gemstone - a Combination of Amethyst and Citrine
63Ametrine Gemstone
Ametrine is a breathtakingly beautiful purple and yellow stone which is a combination of Amethyst and Citrine. With this stone one can have both gem colors for the price of one! As you may have already noticed the words amethyst and citrine are combined to yield the name ametrine. The beauty and hardness of this stone makes it most suitable for jewelry, especially pendants. Ametrine is a variety of Quartz and also is referred as ‘trystine’. Another name of this gemstone is ‘bolivianite’ which may be due to its availability in the jungles of Bolivia. The Anahi Mine in Bolivia is the major world producer of ametrine. This stone is also found in Brazil and India. The Anahi mine became famous in the seventeenth century when a Spanish Conquistador received it as a present when he married a princess from the Ayoreos tribe named Anahi. However, this is not a very expensive stone. The purple and golden colors of this gem are as a result of different oxidation states of iron impurities within the crystalline structure.
This
bi-color yellow and purple quartz gem has all the metaphysical properties of
both Amethyst and Citrine combined as well as its own unique properties. Therefore ametrine can
be the birthstone for those who are born in February or for the Zodiac sign of
Pisces. This stone is also a good stone for those born under the Zodiac
Sign of Libra. The planets associated with this stone are Jupiter, Mercury,
Neptune and Pluto. Ametrine is a good stone for relieving negativity, stress
and tension. This stone is also a good stone for meditation. This gem is said to be of help in times of depression,
headaches and backache.
