Here are some photos from this year's (April 17th 2009) Amnesty International Get on the Bus demonstrations in NYC. Students from all over New England from Highschools and Colleges attend to express their support for human rights and their concern for particular issues. It was a perfect spring day in New York with temperatures between 70 & 75. The positive energy was shared along with new awareness and knowledge of issues in Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Guatemala and Tibet.

Nice pictures. It looks like everyone had a good time on a bright, sunny day.

I notice that the pictures mostly feature women. Are they people you personally know (or the photographer's friends)? Or does this indicate that there are more women active in human rights causes than men?

These events are extraordinarily upbeat, full of fellow feeling and peace.

I teach at a girls' school and these are some of my students. I would say the attendees are about equally from both genders.

It is fun but that isn't the point of going. Try driving a school bus into and out of Manhattan on a Friday.
