Amount of Vitaim C In Energy Drinks By Name

With a few exceptions, energy drinks do not appear to contain large amounts of Vitmamin C.

Here's a list of the amount of Vitamin C I found according to the labels, as I read them, on cans of popular energy drinks. As you can see, they don't offer a lot of it.

Red Bull 0% RDA

Amp 0% RDA

RockStar 100% RDA

GURU 0% RDA

Crave 100% RDA

Efusion 250% RDA

EIRO 500% RDA

"What is the RDA?" The National Academy of Sciences devised the concept of the "Recommended Daily Allowance" in the 1940s. It is defined as the minimal (not maximum) amount of a nutrient a healthy person needs to stay as they are. For a person with any physical challenges, or stress, the RDA may be very inadequate.

The RDA is also an average. Some individuals may actually require more than the RDA to meet their own individual needs.

These values are determined by reading the labels from the cans. If the amount is incorrect, it may have been changed or the label was incorrect.

By and large it appears some of the most-hyped energy drinks on the market contain very little nutrition. The best thing to do is read the label before you buy anything.

Another consideration is the sweetener used. Many contain Aspartame which is a possible source of numerous health risks.

What is the function of Vitamin C in energy drinks?

Vitamin C is a non-toxic vitamin which is required for the growth and repair of tissues in all parts of your body. One of the main roles of this nutrition is to aid in the formation of collagen.

Collagen is an important protein used to make skin, scar tissue, tendons, ligaments, and blood vessels and thus is responsible for "knitting" the body together.

Poor Vitamin C levels can lead to slow wound healing. Accute Vitamin C deficiency causes the disease Scurvy, but a chronic, low-grade deficiency is more common and can be seen in bruising and bleeding gums.

Vitamin C is one of many antioxidants which block some of the damage caused by free radicals or "rusting particles" that are found throughout the body. Such free radicals are by-products resulting from when our bodies transform food into energy.

Some free radicals are also carcinogens, such as the burnt portions of BBQ'd foods.

The build up of these by-products over time is largely responsible for the aging process and can contribute to the development of various health conditions such as cancer, heart disease, and a host of inflammatory conditions like arthritis. Antioxidants also help reduce the damage to the body caused by toxic chemicals and pollutants such as cigarette smoke.

Vitamin V must be obtained through diet. Humans, as well as a few additional species lacks the gene to make Vitamin C. It is therefore important to include plenty of vitamin C-containing foods in your daily diet.
