An All To Real Event With Children In Public Schools
57Imagine This/ OR Not
Think of a day, a particularly long day at work. Problems seemingly came out of the "wood-work" and you are exhausted. You drive up to your home, to find that your children are not outside, and your home seems absolutely quiet. You open the front door, to find the kids sitting quietly in front of the television, looking guilty as they can. When one of the kids gets up and presents a letter, from school, stating that there is a problem with your child and his/her grades. The letter is requesting the dreaded conference with the teacher.
The Conference
So, you take time off of work and go to the child's school, at the appointed time. Upon sitting down, the teacher tells you that your child is falling behind, acting out in class, and a distraction. She continues to tell you that, your child is not completing assignments and those he/she is doing is not acceptable. You look at the child scathingly, and shake your head. Why not, this is the third time this year, and school only started back a few months ago.
What Is Going On?
After trying to figure out what the problem is, you resign yourself to cursing at the child and demanding more of thier attention to their school work. The child nods in agreement, just to get you off his/her back and to get back into your good graces.
But What Is Going on? Well consider this:
The Child is not being properly engaged, the teacher is understaffed to handle the larger class load. The teacher finds that he/she is resigned to accept the circumstances hander her/him. So s/he is forced into going with statistics, and ride on the "coat-tails" of those kids whom are not having too many issues.. This unfortunately, pushes your child to the rear of the teacher's priorities. Bottom line, the teacher is not able to engage your child's mind properly, because he/she has to keep the majority of the class going..
What Can You Do?
Well, to decide to be pro-active is great. Anyone would applaud your family hiring a tutor to help cover class materials, which are challenging your child. Or, you can tutor the child yourself. Not EnoughTime? Well if you are serious in giving your child the added assistance, then you might wish to re-evaluate your time budgeting techniques or hire a tutor one or two days a week for him/her.
Another option is to take the child out of the traditional public school system and home schooling option. This will probably take as much time from your life, as tutoring for one subject. This option may improve your relationship with your child or children. You can keep the Minds of your child engaged and therefore they will learn more rapidly and probably comprehend more of the materials.
