An Australian Poem : Sun Darts
59"Dusk"
Dusk and
the sun darts between
the gums,
harshly blinding
obliterating white lines
on the bending road.
Dead insects sparkle
on the water
in colours of an oil slick.
Wind breaks,
thick cypresses
bring release.,
from sharp flickering
as the yellow orb
drops slowly down.
The road flattens
an endless perspective
appears.,
through rolling slopes
white gums and silver birches
and the inevitable telegraph poles.
Endemic to the land
Outback.

I've driven through that area back in the dim dark days beyond recall in a model T Ford. Your first evokes my memory.
Your second, regretfully, has hurt which I don't think is you.
Thanks just-rodney, for your thoughtful comment - I like the way you wrote it! - interesting how our looong brown stretches of hot road have similar vistas - ... cheers
TOF thank you for words about Dusk and I am truly sorry if the second hurt you ... certainly unintentional...cheers
Hey girl, it didn't hurt me ,I'm bulletproof. I meant that I sensed hurt in its writing. I must have been wrong, for which I,m pleased.
TG TOF I am really glad you are bullet proof - I sometimes think I am but then sometimes I find that I have been quite wrong about this aspect - the words are more about the pain the land must feel as it continually gets lambasted ......cheers
Very good. Great descriptions.
Long and
dusty roads
Long ribbons,
meander
mile after
mile after mile
never ending
heat shimmers
on mirage
mirrors!
Squinted eyes blurred
eyes burned
by the intense
harsh
sunlight
beating down
beating down,
not a breath
of wind
to cool
parched earth,
no respite.
;-)
Images from another country, thoughts while travelling through the Karoo, South Africa.
Thanks Writer Rider - I'm glad you could see the images...cheers
just_rodney - love your words - I've been there (not really!) but your land must be so like ours! very evocative - I particularly like
"Squinted eyes
blurred eyes
burned
by the intense
harsh
sunlight
beating down"
cheers and thanks for this..
My pleasure there Aj, our two countries has many things in common.

Well again,
the bard
has captured
a vista
not seen by us
now seen
through
written verse.
Thanks fair lady
your imagary strong
travels far
through to
countries
distanced by miles.
We see simlar sites in the Karroo in the Cape province and also towards the semi desert areas in our Northern Province.
