Who is he? Chamberlain is the author of CANCER The Complete Recovery Guide, Cancer Recovery Guide, and 20 Things I Would Do If I Got Cancer. He also has a website: www.FightingCancer.com. Actually, it is through this website that I got to know Jonathan.

Why did he get involved with cancer? He wrote: Thirteen years ago my wife Bernadette was diagnosed with cancer. She did what we all thought was the sensible thing. She followed the advice of the oncologists. She underwent exploratory surgery followed by radiation and chemotherapy. She was dead a year later. She could not have died quicker if we’d done nothing. And that year was a year of great pains for her as she suffered through her treatments – and great pain for me as I sought desperately and fruitlessly to find some route to a cure in the books I found in the bookshop, the library and the local support centre. Eventually, I came to realize that the books I was looking for didn’t exist. I wanted a book that would take me by the hand and tell me what all the options were, what their rationales were and why there were problems with the orthodox approaches. So I wrote Fighting Cancer: A Survival Guide.

Welcome to Penang!  It was our pleasure to have the opportunity to play host to Jonathan when he visited Penang in July / August 2009. One evening, Chris and Jonathan sat by the beach in Batu Ferringhi and chatted until the sun disappeared from the horizon.  The video clips below are impromptu recordings of our casual conversation that evening.

Video 1: What is your impression?

Of Penang:It is amazing. Nine o’clock in the morning and the streets are empty! That is unusual.

Of CA Care: I like the sprit of your e-mails – straight forward, direct, not defensive and not formal. I am not particularly interested in the organization, CA Care. I assumed that this is just a reflection of you and your work.

This is what Jonathan wrote about CA Care in his book, CANCER The Complete Recovery Guide, pg.233:

Chris Teo is a retired Professor of Botany and a dedicated Christian who has, in a very short time, built up a worldwide reputation for his herbal cures for cancer. He is not an orthodox Chinese herbalist … Living in Penang, Malaysia, he has not had the problems that many herbalists have in the West. If he had attempted to do what he has done in the USA, he would have been pilloried as a quack and a charlatan.

If you think Malaysia is too far to go for a cancer cure, the writer Bernie Siegel had revealed an interesting fact. Life expectancy for cancer patients undergoing treatment is directly proportional to how far they have to travel, and by implication how much energy they have to put into it. In short, those who travel furthest for their cancer treatments live longer.

After visiting our centre, what is the impression that you have?
I am really impressed when I came and saw your centre. When I came and you showed me the back end of your organization – all the herbs, the ovens, procedure of washing the herbs, the drying of the herbs, I thought this is a very big enterprise (Chris: Serious enough?) It is extremely serious.
