An Iraqi Breakfast and a Letter

Good morning breakfastpoppers. Today is Thursday, November 5, 2009 and I have an easy and interesting recipe I would like to share with you. It's called Kahi and it is a common breakfast enjoyed in Iraq. If you care to follow along you will need 4 sheets of store bought filo dough, 2 tablespoons softened butter and 2 tablespoons honey. These amounts serve one person, so just add to the recipe if you want some company. Brush each of the filo sheets with butter and stack them. Fold the stack 2 or 3 times to form a rectangle about the size of your palm. Brush the dough with butter and place on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake according to package directions on the filo dough package. Remove from oven, drizzle generously with honey and serve. Sit back and enjoy this little treasure, because I feel a letter coming on.

California has enacted new rules for the teaching of Islamic studies to seventh graders in public schools. I believe we need to take note of this trend because this practice may come to a school district near you and it is troubling, to say the least. Clearly, the plan aims to soften and downplay the incidence of violence against and oppression of women as prescribed in Islamic law, known as Shariah. The curriculum appears to glorify the law as a liberal reform movement that does not abide by the mistreatment of women. However, according to Islamic scholar Nonie Darwish, the teaching is inaccurate and women are treated very poorly. Wife beating is allowed and if a women is seen without a headdress she can be flogged, a rape victim must be punished and the answer to adultery is beheading.
The California guidelines on world religions omits Islam's history of violence, but portrays Christianity as an intolerant and bloodthirsty faith. What is wrong with this picture and what can be done about it? California is promoting a twisted view of religion that clearly favors Islam and totally relegates Christianity and Judiasm to a minor role.
I don't know about you, but this is unacceptable and outrageous. In this country, the brutal behavior that I have described is criminal and our response is jail time, plain and simple. We do not tolerate the loathsome and cruel treatment of women and calling it a law does not change anything. I wonder did the father who ran over and killed his daughter with his SUV feel he was acting within the guidelines of his faith? I believe he did. Apparently, he forgot he was in our country.
It is time for Americans to take a stand and speak up. This is the United States of America. We have a Constitution and we have laws and if you want to live here you must abide by them. The educators in California should take note as well. Clearly, they have had a horrible lapse of judgement and they must rectify the situation.
If you are wondering who advised the schools on shaping this sorry curriculum look no further than the Council on Islamic Education, an activist group with ties to Saudi Arabia.
Wake up California and wake up America. This is our country and we have a long history of tolerance and accepting people with open arms, but this goes way beyond the pale. Immigrants who came to this country in the distant past embraced the American way of life, learned our language and longed for citizenship. Those days are over. Muslims who enter our country remain true to their beliefs even when they clash with Western ways. They do not desire assimilation.
If the schools in California are incapable of telling the truth about religious practices, they shouldn't be offering it in their curriculum. Leave that to scholars who have the courage to see things the way they really are and stop inflicting your misguided and distorted teachings on seventh-graders.
I am up to here with political correctness. I am sick to death of turning a blind eye and a deaf ear to the elephant in the room. Barack Obama's election to the presidency is a perfect example of what I mean. Rev. Wright was the proverbial elephant.
We need to take our country back and we need to return to the values that made us strong and kept us safe. We really can't afford to waste a minute. Our nation is in trouble on so many levels and it is time to raise our voices loud and clear so that those who can't see the handwriting on the wall wake up.

Pop, maybe that's why California is withholding an additional 10% from everyone's wages. They may be tithing for Islam. I wonder if the ACLU will file a court case against teaching Islam in state run schools? This would be consistant with their previous stand against Christianity.
The time is coming for us to greet with "locked and loaded"
instead of "open" arms. Now is as good a time as any to pay our debt in full to China, by simply giving them Kaliforniastan. Seems it may be cheaper to pay for properties for those who want to leave than to foot the money borrowed to finance the bail outs.
Those who stay could get the Communism they yearn for, but I doubt the teaching of Islam would be allowed.
Prior to this a fence or wall needs to be built around Kaliforniastan and the prison population that has 10 or more years left on their sentences be bussed to and thrown over the wall. Those with death sentences launched via catapult.
OK I'm having to much fun thinking out loud, so I'll shut up.

I really wonder if the parents of the 7th graders in California really want their children educated bout Islam. I wouldn't want it taught to my children in the public schools. The Muslims want it taught, so the Californians cave in. The Muslims, last I noticed, were a minority in this country. Why should we care about their religion? I learned all I need to know about Muslims on September 11, 2001. With that, I'm thirsty. Meet you all at the bar. BARTENDER...............

what happened to the separation of church and state? How does the study of Islam become a requirement? I certainly hope that US History is still a requirement for Juniors in High School! Glad I'm not from California; maybe we're ready for the San Andreas Fault to send us "the Big One".
Then, Nevada will have a shoreline. That would be after we took care of the prisioners, communists, etc. that 50 Caliber spoke of above. He has a good idea.
Oddly, this three week course to 7th graders has been going on as far back as 2002. The first objections were from the Islamic population, which wanted to stop the teachings, because the students were given a negative look at Islam. Somehow, the teachings changed, and children were asked to dress, and take an Islamic name for the course. These same children were not able to use the name Jesus in the school, or wear crosses. It appears that this started in Byron, CA, as part of a social studies course.
I'm still agreeing with POP and 50 Caliber.

Morning POP, The breakfast was good, but the Iraqis can keep everything else. I can't help feel sorry for the wierdos in Cali, they probably think it's so wonderful that their children are becoming 'children of the corn'. Here is an interesting piece in yesterdays news, 11 more schools singing praises to Obama. Why not just dress our kids in red uniforms and have them march to the tune of Obamala. The heck with the bar, I may have to grow some more radishes!

Great hub, it is sad sad state of affairs when a country as great as ours has forsaken the founding priciples set for by our founders. Little consideration and none is expected from the infidels and infra-hells who rule this country of ours. Maybe, just maybe, the electorate is coming to their senses. Hopefully the Republican victories in New Jersey and Virginia are the first steps in turning this great country back in the right direction.

Morning Pop. It looks like I'm a bit late to the party. Teaching the children sounds like brain washing while they're young like Hitler did. I don't see how they can legally do that and not teach Christianity. The ACLU probably supports them. Of course, history books have also been changed over the years also. I've heard this saying, How do you eat an elephant? Answer: A bite at a time, but this elephant would gag a maggot. Meet you at the bar.

This falls in line with the establishment of the New World Order; with Hussein Obama at its’ head and George Soros as the Man Behind the Curtain pulling the levers! Christianity has always stood against Barbarianism from Pope Leo XIII’s stand against Attila to John Paul’s stance against the Soviet Union. Islam, with its history of violence, is the religion of choice of Hussein Obama and his Oligarchy.
On a lighter note; maybe they’ll get Bagdad Bob, the other Hussein’s Minister of Disinformation to teach the course!

Great hub!! Just in the last couple weeks, here in Phoenix, we had a Muslim father run down and kill his 20 year old daughter because she became too “westernized” and "dishonored" the family in his eyes. Our society needs to realize that many in the world do not hold the same value on human life as we Americans do. Keep up the great work!!

Thanks for the heads up about Islam getting taught in schools. Not surprising it all starts in California - hard to fathom that happening here in ND as were are supposedly way behind the times but I will keep my eyes and ears open! (that it is happening at all in our country is very disturbing)

Dear foster parent, If I am not mistaken Western Countries have ended up occupying Muslim countries to both help try and stabilize governments that are in the midst of civil war. To capture those leaders and terrorists who have caused mass destruction and death to people in our countries and to stop the propagation of Nuclear and Chemical Weapons. No one likes it when innocent lives get caught in the middle. That is more than just a tragedy. But tell me, how many innocent people died on September 11th in the United States? How many Muslim children loose their lives due to your own Sharia law? How many Women loose their lives to Sharia Law. We hear the cries of those children and those women. Do you? We have no problem with Islamic people, only with Muslim extremists who believe that all infidels (not Muslims) should be killed, and with those who believe it is ok to kill their women and children.

I understand and appreciate your comments. I do believe that it is time for peaceful Muslims to speak out and take a stand against those of their faith who are violent. We need to hear the voice of reason. As far as Iraq is concerned, I believe that initially the Iraqis were glad to be rid of Sadaam Hussein. It's now time for the United States to leave. Keep in mind one thing, after the brutal attack on the Sept. 11th, the Muslim world was painfully silent. Where were the cries of pain and sorrow from moderate Muslims?

We need tolerance and understanding from all. The USA is the heart and soul of this world and it is imperative that tolerance radiates from America to all countries. This does not mean not to confront terrorism and extremism but ensure who the enemies of freedom and crush them and also not stereotype a religion or race and view any one from a certain race or religion as a potential terrorist. However, our largesse has often been met with hatred and intolerance. I think political correctness, needs to go the way of the covered wagon. We should be respectful with each another, but putting blinders on for the sake of political correctness is suicide.
