Nature provides many answers, we just have to look.

This Viney Plant Grows Wild In Many Parts Of The World

In the Southern states of the US, Kudzu, also known as Kuzu in Japan and by the Latin name Puraria lobota, is seen as a nuisance and menace. In other parts of the world, particularly China and Japan, the plant is used to treat several diseases, including alcohol abuse.

In Chinese medicine the plant is known as Ge Gen and a tea made from the root has proven effective in treating alcoholism when other methods have failed. The plant is collected during the winter months when the nutrients are concentrated in the root. and a strong tea is made. The dosage, up to a quart a day, depends on the patient.

The active ingredients, according to National Academy of Science 93;90(4):1247-51, are a pair of isoflavones, daidzin and daidzein. These compounds are closely related to bioflavoids that can strengthen blood vessels and prevent bruising. The extracts and the plant root, appear to have the same abilities where alcohol abuse is concerned

Other information from Japan and China states that Kudzu is able to relax smooth muscles located in major blood vessels.and has been effective in treating angina pectoria, a severe pain associated with sudden decreases in blood supply to the heart muscle. It has also shown to be effective in increasing blood flow to the brain in those suffering from atherosclerosis (clogging of the arteries).

When given to patients, in combination with a vitamin B complex, about one-third, who suffered from sudden deafness, were either cured or experienced significant improvement.

The herb cloves has been used for centuries to help recovering alcoholics curb their desire to have another drink. By putting two whole cloves of the herb in the mouth and sucking on them, without chewing or swallowing them, the cravings for alcohol are effectively, though temporarily, appeased.

The calix part of the eggplant, the part that attaches to the stem on the top of the eggplant, can be made into an infusion and is said to to be effective in “mellowing out” the effects of alcohol in the bloodstream. Simmer 2-1/2 tablespoons of chopped eggplant calix in two cups of water for twenty minutes and drink while still warm.

The recovering alcoholic should be placed on a balanced whole food diet and a complete spectrum of vitamin and mineral supplements by their health care provider.
