The Sled Dog Industry in Alaska
Anchorage, Alaska is not only the largest city in the state, but also the gateway to the Iditarod Sled Dog Race, also kown as "The Race for Mercy" and
The Last Great Race on Earth.
The word Idiarod means " a distant place." Requiring a full year of preparation every year, the Iditarod Sled Dog race is held annually at the beginning of March, along with a Jr. Iditarod for youth during the last several years. A great number of people are required to operate this race and jobs are available, as listed further below.
The race is held in order to commemorate an emergency dog sled relay in 1925 over the fronzen land and sea to deliverdipthjereia vaccine to the people of Nome, Alaska. Native Americans in Alaska made up the majority of the mushers that drove the dog sleds toward Nome along much a similar route to one the Iditarod travels in the 21st century. There were also some Europeans mushers.
The famous lead sled dog Balto led the last leg of the relay, his team and musher delviering the vaccine into the hands of the people that needed it,
They hauled the medicine to a group of adults and children stricken with the fatal disease diptheria out in the toughest wilds of Alaska, where no other form of trasporation could reach and where medicine and supplies were scarce. Some people unfortunately died becuase of these circumstances.
Balto led the final team to the children and helped save their lives. Statues and a museum can be visited in Anchorage, and a large statue in New Your City's Central Park commemorates Balto as a hero.
Anchorage is a big employment city in Alaska and a large center for the tourism, hospitality, and dog sledding industries.

Zsusy,
I think we would have to buy an island and then open a tailoring business for people who would like to travel to our island, have a vacation, and purchase new clothes ... and eat in our restaurant of course. Island of Tailoring.
My Mohawk grandfather's surname was Taylor, by the way. They must have been tailors in the 1700s!

So where do we find this island? The weather network is promising more missery for our area. Snow, freezing rain the works.
You're the research specialist, you always find just the right thing I leave it in your hands. Tell me where & when to book my flight. I'll see you there. Zs
Hey I live in Anchorage,too
come visit my site to see what I have to offer, to all
IE. realtors, college students, work at home based biz, stay at home mothers, single parents.
Zsusy,
It's about 80 degrees here, down from 95 yesterday, and stepping into the swimming pool is like stepping into the bath!
Mind you, we're in the southern hemisphere, so it's mid-summer, but even in winter it never, ever snows here. In fact, in our part of Sydney, it doesn't even get as low as freezing.
I'm sure there would be room for another tailor in these parts ;)

It's odd I just watched a documentary on living in the North of north, last night. For a fleating split second I thought it would be so peaceful to live there. Then I looked outside at my 2" of snow...Nah too much white stuff and cold. Now how about finding a spot for jobs where its not too cold, not too hot, no taxes, jobs galore for a tailor.....
great hub regards Zsuzsy
