House light

Lighthouse Drawn at Tate Gallery

Ancient Friend

Long sought by the keenest of vision,

With radiant sweeps you smooth the wrinkled mien,

Making sprightly the mariner’s melancholy heart,

Stirring his soul,

Reflecting his flame within.

Rising above the surge of swarthy, foam crested tongues,

Signalling steadier than the echo

Of their siren-songs,

You light his way - leading him home.

I initially thought a lighthouse. then I saw the pic titled house light. then i figured, both fits perfectly. a nice ode to that which gives hope and shows the way :D

What a nice way to give tribute to an ancient friend!

Like Chris I also thought of lighthouse especially because of your background. However, I think it applies to any kind of light (literal or figurative), right?

oh you spilled the beans, the poem being abut God, but that makes it so much more beautiful for certain people who are kind of dumb about poetry. but this sounds like real poetry, not the drivel that certain people (me) write. 'making sprightly the mariners' melancholy heart' i really like that. and we are all travelers, aren't we.

Cris and Jill, I am pleased that you enjoyed my poem. I thought I'd engage in a little wordplay by including a photo of a houselight, in lieu of a lighthouse, not least because I have yet to capture picture of a lighthouse in the way that I want. So there you have it - the poem is really about a metaphor for God - my secret is out...

P.S. I was drawing a card, with my son, at St. Ives's Tate gallery recently. Now I have a scribbly lighthouse - yay!

Dolores, indeed, we are all travelers. Drivel is a strong word for you use to describe your writing, but I appreciate the backhanded compliment. I am happy that you are 1. "getting me", and mostly, 2. that you have been positively affected by your reading of my poem. Inspire me!
