Introducing Andrew Wiggins 13 Year Old Phenom

Andrew Wiggins is a 13 year old international superstar. The canadian born basketball player (that was not a typo, yes I did say the canadian born basketball player),must have been paying attention while playing against his father. Andrew is the son of former National Basketball Association Player Mitchell Wiggins and his mother is Marita Payne a superb olympic sprinter. How many kids can say they got their speed from their mother? He plays and attends school in the United States but he heads back to his native Canada in the summer to shoot hoops not pucks. He plays for a team called Grassroots, a 16 and under team who play like they are grown men.

Andrew isn't like that goofy kid that you use to sit next to on the way to junior high. Andrew Wiggins is a man child. He is six foot six, has blazing moves and has a vertical equivalent to three feet. No one is taking his lunch money! Wiggins's inside touch is remarkable. As I watched the video below he reminded me of Kobe Bryant when he makes a little left hand floater in the lane. His movements toward the basket are extremely fluid, not something you would expect from such a lanky kid.

Whether a kid should be able to go to the NBA out of high school is a heavily debated topic. A topic that I might delve into in the future, but I will stay clear of it for now. Maybe I will revisit it in 2014 when Andrew is set to help a college coach keep his job for one more year or make a NBA G.M very happy.
