Judaism
According to belief, angels in the Jewish faith are superhuman beings from in heaven, who, when ordered to by God, reveal God's will to man and execute His commands. In one form or another, the belief in angels appears in the earliest stages of Jewish history, and continues to live in the spiritual world of the Jews.
Angels are powerful and wise. They have knowledge of all earthly events. They are holy, but
not infallible; for they strive with each other, and God has to make
peace between them. Angels can be beneficial or punishing to man. They carry up man's prayers to God.
Accompanying angels are temporary companions. Two angels—one good and one evil—accompany man as he returns from the synagogue to his home on Sabbath eve. The souls of the pious are received by three good angels; those of the wicked, by three evil angels, who accompany them and testify for them. The angels associate with the pious and instruct them in certain matters.
Mormon
Latter Day Saints, Mormons, believe that angels are former humans or spirits of humans left to be born. For example, they believe that the archangels Michael and Gabriel lived on earth as the first man, Adam, and Noah, respectively. The angel Moroni who came to Latter Day Saints founder Joseph Smith was once a 5th century warrior.
The duties of angels in the Mormon faith include saving man during dangerous times, teaching doctrines of salivation, and calling for repentance.
Islam
Belief in angels are one of the 6 Articles of Faith in Islam. Angels are messangers of God with no free will. Though there is no set heirarchy of angels, angels in the Qu'ran are responsible for certain individual tasks.
Though most Islamics would describe angels as having human qualities, they can take different forms. The Angel Jibreel is the most recognized angel, as he delivered the message of Allah to the prophet Muhammad. Jibreel is described as having 600 wings. Other angels are described as unimaginably big. One angel was said to be so large that the distance between his earlobe and his shoulder was equivalent to a 700 year long journey.
