Why do we do what we do?
You dont know how many times I get asked by people "Why did you join the marine corps?" well all i can think of these days now is at the time i wanted to do something B.A. I dont even remember why i joined in the first place. It all is just a big blur of senseless activities and things i was forced to do that make entirey no sense and just end up confusing me at the end of the day. Point in case, This past friday my unit had a nine mile "hump". If you dont know what it is its pretty much just all of us getting up rediculously early and getting our weapons, wearing pretty much everything we own in a pack that is in its self rediculous, putting on all our gear and walking 4.5 miles one way and 4.5 miles in the other way. They say it prepares us and gets us better at walking in all of our gear but when will we ever wear all that gear and ive done plenty of "humps" and they never get any easier or less sucky. Oh and by the way, NOBODY CAN WALK FOR DAYS AFTERWARDS CAUSE OUR FEET AND LEGS HURT SOO BAD!!! You tell me thats not rediculous and ill call you rediculous. Well back to what i was saying. We get force to do all this crazy stuff just because someone way higher then me who ive never met but have to treat like god thinks its a good idea... probly because he doesnt have to do it. I guess if i were way up there i would make everyone do rediculous things that comepletely strip us of our pride and love for life. Good thing i get 2.5 days of leave every month so i can take some time off right? Wrong! I had no idea those were only allowed to be used when they want you to use them. "Hey my brothers getting married and there is nothing really on the schedual for this weekend (because its the weekend) can i fly home to be in the wedding and us my leave days?"...."Just becuase i can....NO" And thats how that goes. Its not all that bad though i get to live in a room with 2 other guys with a sink and a toilet and a floor that no matter how many times you sweep and mop cant stay clean soo yea i have perks. If all this doesnt just make you want to join then lets talk about waking up at 5 in the morning just to get told to wait in your room for something to do but you cant go anywhere... or back to sleep. Now thats what i call a good freakin time!

im assuming the question mark is for the rediculous bashing of the marine corps but honestly its just over overdramatized complaining because of the difficulty of the job.
I enjoyed your hub very much. I bet you've lived an interesting, allbeit, difficult life at times. Thanks for the insight.
Hi,
My son was also in the military and served in Iraq as a scout/sniper/airborn infantry. It is a hard life and much sacrifice is asked of you. It isn't a walk in the park.
But I want to thank you for making those marches and be prepared to protect our freedoms and lives.
Thank you, Holly
Hey Marine, sounds like you should have joined the Air Force since Corps is too hard for you. And you should spend more of your free time learning the language.

It is far from too hard. There is just alot of things that really get everyone annoyed and obviusly like I stated at the bottom of the hub it's just grunts and groans.
