Animal Attack! The Ten Scariest Animals on Earth!

Which Animal Would You Least Like to Be Attacked By?
See results without votingAnimal attacks happen every single day in all corners of the Earth. It is inevitable that where people and animals overlap, there will be animal attacks. Most of these animal attacks are due to people either toying with, or otherwise messing with dangerous wildlife. This hub is dedicated to the ten animals that scare me the most where animal attacks are concerned. For the sake of this hub, I refer to the term animal as any living thing. I hope you enjoy the hub as much as I enjoyed putting it together.
The Silent Predator - Saltwater Crocodile
Animal Attack Contender - The Saltwater Crocodile
The saltwater crocodile of Australia is a legend in animal attack circles and with good reason. This giant reptile has a very dubious distinction in the animal attack world: It actually sees us as a food source. Come to think of it, a saltwater crocodile sees anything it can eat as a food source.
Armed with huge teeth and an incredible bite pressure, the saltwater crocodile ironically will drown you long before you even feel the pain of the bite. A saltwater crocodile grabs hold of you, and then goes into a "death roll" to drown you. The result is that you are eaten in large chunks after drowning.
This particular reptile holds a special place in my heart as I was a huge fan of the late Steve Irwin.

The Great White Death
Animal Attack Contender - The Great White Shark
Legendary though it may be, the Great White Shark generally does not target humans as food. The great white loves to eat seals, and a human on a boogey board can appear similar from below the water. Still, the occasional animal attack happens and when it does, the great white shark is devastating. The rows and rows of sharp teeth rip and tear flesh like a hot knife through butter.
This is one of the few animals that is worse than your worst fears. Imagine sitting in the water and treading. Suddenly you see a fin pierce the water and rise up to three feet out of the water. The fear would be paralyzing to say the least.
Fortunately, you probably would not experience that as a great white is an ambush predator. They would come from below and you would never see them coming. Feel better?
The Regal Tiger
Animal Attack Contender - The Tiger
The tiger is one of the most underrated animals on this list. The ferocity with which a tiger can attack is unparalelled in the animal kingdom. The tiger is actually one of the animals that have been known to stalk, kill, and consume human beings.
People do not realize that the tiger is the largest in the cat kingdom overall. They are capable of slicing us to bits in minutes, and they have been known to set up camp in places where they have found human prey. Much like the lion, the tiger will take an opportunity to feed, human or not.

Video of Lion Attacking a Hunter
Animal Attack Contender - The Lion
King of the jungle. Lord of the Plains. Call it whatever you wish, but recognize that the lion is the animal attack supreme. What makes the lion so bad is that they hunt in prides. There would not be just one lion to eat you, but a whole bunch of them. i guess that is better than just one snacking on you, but the thought is absolutely terrifying.
The lion is a supreme predator that demands respect. Given the chance, and the proper set of circumstances, the lion can kill us in the blink of an eye. The lion tops my personal list of the scariest animal on Earth.
The King - Lions Still Top the Food Chain
Animal Attack Contender - The Grizzly Bear
This animal is one of the few animals in North America that can truly kill and eat a man. Generally omnivores, these animals are opportunity predators where humans are concerned. Still, humans are killed every year by this huge predator. Often, it is due to someone getting to close, or happening upon a grizzly that is with her cubs.
A grizzly bear utilizes huge claws, and an incredible size to attack, and has been known to decapitate a moose with one swipe of its massive paw. Imagine what that could do to you or I?
The Grizzly Bear Up Close
Animal Attack Contender - The Black Mamba
This notorious reptile found in the African bush is known for many things that are not even true. The black mamba will not pursue you unless you corner it. However, if you are dumb enough to corner it, it will go on the offensive. The black mamba was once a snake that would kill you 100 percent of the time if you were bit and it released venom. Now, antivenon has helped to improve the fatality rate. If you do not get the antivenon, however, you are as good as dead.
The black mamba makes this list simply because of the power of it's venom, and its nasty disposition. It is one of the quickest, and most dangerous living creatures on the planet.

Black Mamba - Slender Death
Animal Attack Contender - The Komodo Dragon
This throwback from the days of the dinosaurs kills in a very different manner. The Komodo dragon eats largely carrion. Dead things have bacteria, and the Komodo dragon does not have very good dental plans. As such, their saliva is a mixed soup of deadly bacteria and viral disaster. They will often bite larger prey, and then use their incredible sense of smell to follow the ailing animal until they die from the toxic bite. Kind of like a venomous snake, but with toxic spit.
The Komodo is also armed with incedibly large talons or claws which are capable of tearing us to shreds. Weighing up to 150 pounds, we would be in serious trouble if this lizard got us in its clutches.
The Komodo Dragon - The Living Dinosaur Reptile
Animal Attack Contender - The King Cobra
The king cobra is the longest venomous snake on Earth and it knows how to use that size. The cobra is not as deadly as the mamba, but it is capable of injecting copious amounts of venom. This huge reptile can raise up to four feet off the ground while spreading its hood, and can move forward to strike from that same position. That makes for a very deadly, dangerous striking mechanism.
The incredible power of the king cobra as a snake is enough to warrant adding him to this list. Check out the video in below to see exactly what I mean.

Animal Attack Contender - The Tiger Shark
Needless to say, the tiger shark is a maneater. This shark has been known to eat car tires, garbage, car plates, whales, fish, and of course, humans. Anything that is possible to shove down its throat is open game for the tiger shark. This is why it is referred to as "the trashcan of the sea" and it is exactly why humans should be cautious.
The tiger shark is also quite large, and can grow to the size of a small car. A tiger shark will often investigate with its serrated teeth before attacking prey. The problem with this is an investigating nibble from a tiger shark might just take a limb from us fragile humans.
Animal Attack Contender - The Sydney Funnel Web Spider
This spider is on the list for pure creepiness. It is huge, hairy, deadly, and downright aggressive. This spider found in Australia is capable of killing us, and it is not shy at all about sinking those huge fangs in. One of the few spiders on Earth that will actually be proactive in biting, the funnel web also finds itself in the homes of those wonderful Aussies. What a wonderful neighbor to have.
These spiders are tough and rear up the front legs in a warning pose when you are in the danger zone. This visual has haunted many dreams, and especially the dreams of those that have been bitten and survived.

Great Hub.
Man I hate snakes. Good read. Thanks Rodney.
Cheers
Being attacked by an animal definitely doesn't sound like much fun. I never heard of the funnel web spider before. My wife and kids freak out over common little spiders never mind ones that actually could hurt them. Nice hub.
I also hate snakes, but attacked by any animal is scary. Animals have to be respected, we can't predict their behavior, too bad many end up in close encounters with it and try to treat it like human beings.
I can see why this is one of your best on here. Thanks for the invite, this place is cool.
WOW THOES ANIMALS ARE NOT SCARY...
ATALL
they are really worse....you scared me man...no polling for this...because once you cought in their hands will never gonna come out alive and know who was worse.....
nice hub...liked it
the great white death? that's not fair... most great white shark attacks are unintentional. almost nobody dies from great white attacks because great whites don't like the taste of human flesh. they just use taste as a sense of what things are. Besides, humans don't have gills for a reason, we weren't meant to be in the ocean. If we go in the ocean, that means we accept all the responsibilities that come with entering another habitat with an entirely different hierarchy in which we are not at the top.
Last year's shark week proved tiger sharks prefer their natural prey to humans as well. While tiger shark attacks are more lethal, they are either provoked or mistaken. But once again, a human is entering an environment for which he was not made.
As for bears, I've been about 10 ft away from a brown bear, her two cubs, and a black bear during the salmon season in Alaska. Bears don't attack unless provoked either.
I think all the animals on this list with the exception of the spiders and kimono dragon (because I don't know about them so I can't make an informed judgement) only attack when provoked or confused. It's a human's job to be aware of the dangers around him when entering new environments that have animals that might be dangerous and know the survival techniques.
if you're gonna make a shark a fatal shark can you at least make it a shark that doesn't stop attacking once it starts... the bull shark. bull sharks have also been recently adapting to freshwater conditions and one was found about halfway up this Mississippi river around the southern most tip of Illinois. WATCH SHARK WEEK BEFORE YOU PREECH ABOUT SHARKS BEING SCARY! Jaws is a great movie, but don't the horrible special effects tell you anything? When I watch that movie, I enjoy it but I'm also thinking, this is not how a shark behaves... ever. So don't base your research off of Jaws. That set a panic that was unnecessary.
I was looking at that... and the only reason I picked Black Mamba was because... Well, Caverns of Kroz.
hmmm...what can i say then? Ok, they are the most dangerous animals....and its not good to attack people...really!!! but actuallt i am a lion in horoscop (is the spelling good?) And in chinese horoscop i am tiger...soooo I AM DANGEROUS!!! BE CAREFUL, BEFORE I COME TO YOU!!
just kidding..
My worst fear would be humans. The only creature that kills for all reasons. For example, a woman in our town killed a mother and three children while texting on her cell phone while driving. Every night on the local news someone has been shot or killed by drunk drivers. I love and respect all off nature.
i think it would be insightful to state how often attacks by this animal happen. When they do happen, they are likely to be fatal. However, most of these animals don't attack unless provoked, whether intentionally or accidentally. I would never deny the severity of an attack by one of these animals though.
Hey Brucifer... I agree with that, and I actually considered posting statistics but they do not exist in legitimate form. That is, the stats that are out there are not likely to be accurate for a large number of these animals. For example, if a crocodile eats a man in the jungle, and the man is by himself, it will not get reported. This happens much more often than one might think in Africa and other countries. Because the statistics that I found were so wide ranging in estimates, I decided to leave them out. Thanks for the comment!
Thanks for give the bears some credit. One of the most dangerous animals in the states for the fact that they like human food and where is human food we are normally not to far away. They are also very curious animals and tend to check out humans because of ours smell. Checking out meaning dragging a person into the bush and crushing them under their paws. Again the statistic are just an estimate. If you don't live to tell about it chances are no one will ever know about it.
I can see why this is one of your best on here. Thanks for the invite, this place is cool.
Wow. This is an awesomely put together hub! Just reading about the saltwater crocodiles gave me the willies, nevermind tigers and komodo dragons! Good work!

Great hub, Rodney. I was also a big Steve Irwin fan.
The biggest attack problems we have here in Oregon is on the outskirts of towns, where Mountain Lions are stalking. I have actually seen a couple... TOO up close and personal!
