^{Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion} is a Sunrise's 25 episodes anime that made it's premiere in 2006. Code Geass was directed by Goro Taniguchi and won several awards for the best anime of the year in most of Japan finest anime festivals.

Perhaps it's key to success is that Code Geass has the potential to please several different audiences by mixing many different genres and styles...

• it has a modern day setting with things people are used to: sub-ways; cars, motorcycles; actual architecture;
• certain elements from the past: namely nobility clothes; classical palaces; the chaste hierarchy system of obedience from the royalty (yes, your highness...);
• Mechas (aka Knightmare Frames) where you see a dint of future technology we only dream of;
• vivid and fast action-packed sequences full of emotion;
• at the same time a story with a steady character development but full of twists (so you slowly discover what that person is all about and how he ended up being that way and than you see them change due to the events unfolding)
• violent scenes that makes this a mature anime;
• sweet and funny scenes with episodes that almost resemble a teen show;
• male characters appealing to the young teen ladies;
• female hotties with a tendency to show naked body parts in ecchi fashion;

... but does this mix exceptionally well, providing an entertaining view experience that makes us lust for just one more episode!

It's key plot line is similar to another famous anime - Death Note: the attaining of a unique power by the main character, Lelouch, in this case, the ability to make others do his biding.

Lelouch soon discovers the scope and limitations of his Geass and uses it to advance his own personal agenda. Like Yagami Light, the use of this "divine" power will change the world they live in. But Lelouch's personality and history is much, much different and so is the reason why he does things that can be considered evil...

The array of interpersonal relationships is wide and the complex motivations and breathtaking climatic situations makes the viewer believe that he is watching destiny unfold, almost as in a Shakespearean play.

Yes, maybe the best way to summarize Code Geass is this: it's Shakespeare in Anime!

Of course, an anime needs not only a great story to be a success. Butin terms of animation and soundtrack Code Geass: Lelouch of the Revolution also excels... particularly hitomi tunes, with that strange and dreamy language that she uses, always sents shivers down my spine.

So all in all, a must see. The ending will make you scratch your head a little, but after you see the sequel, Code Geass R2, all will make sense. This two series made me worship this work like one of the best (if not THE BEST) that I have ever seen in my lifetime.
