Howl's Moving castle

Howl's Moving Castle made it's debut in 2004 and it's a first class Studio Gibhli anime movie, that was directed by Hayao Miyazaki. it was based on the novel of the same name written by Diana Wynne Jones.

It's a fairy-tale, set in a fantasy setting, where beautiful landscapes and advanced steam technology mingle and create pure magic to your eyes and ears.

The story depicts a fabulous journey that 18 years old Sophie embarks, discovering along the way new and strange places, new friends and also a new self.

A spell she recieves is the catalyzer to all this and the focal point to a movie that will bring tears to the viewer, because it reminds us of our future and the struggles we will face, but in the end hope is the message that is left on our hearts.

Getting old is not that bad, if you manage to stay young of heart...

Animation and Soundtrack - Incredible! I think this one got more than 10 major prizes/awards in it's area and scored a major box office sucess.

Yes, it's that great! I just don't write more about it so that you can see it without spoilers! Video Below - Enjoy!

I used to watch a ton of anime. now I just watch an occasional one to get my fix in. This one was pretty good but I would highly recommend watching them on at least a DVD or blu-ray source. Sure you get the same story and sound but the experience of watching it can't be matched. Your doing the film an injustice by watching it on a small window with stereo sound.

examples of this are Tekkon Kinkreeton blue ray or even classics like Tenchi Muyo

i totally agree spoon, as you can see from my disclaimer.

People can see it here, but if they liked it they should BUY the original, because the quality is unmatchable. The DVD version is 5stars - I don't have a Blue Ray player, but I bet it's even better as you say.

Its a quite recent movie Uriel, so you will only find it in seedy torrent sharing sites and with probably lousy cinema recording quality. Oh and Raw, NO SUBS. Do understand that subbing is hard work and takes some time to do :)

Maybe in September there will be more news, for now if you don't understand Japanese it's gonna be hard seeing that one!

I love this story!! I've read the book a few times, and saw the movie countless times!!! The book and the movie are equally good, and I'm glad because although they are about the same stuff, the plotline's different. Each has its own good points, though. Go Diana Wynne Jones and Hayao Miyazaki! :)

Sorry, but there are parts I don't understand because the movie was rather soft on my computer, can somebody help me please?

1) Why would Howl turn into a bird-like creature?

2) Wikipedia wrote "Calcifer ingested the bug". What bug?

3) Why is Madam Salaman (dno how to spell LOL) so much against Howl?

4) Why was Howl waiting for Sophie outside the door after Sophie came out from the past?

Answering these questions would greatly enlighten me, I thank anyone who would help me!!! Thank you!!! Now, I would watch the movie again LOL!

anime_nanet profile image

anime_nanet  says:

1) Part of the spell that occured when he gave his heart to Calcifer

2) Wikipedia is not God

3) Howl was corrupted, trading his heart for power. Sophie was the first person he ever was honest to. He would eventually just turn out to be a selfish world-destroyer, just as Sullaman predicted. She intended to stop him, but I'm not sure if it was good intentions driving her, or pure envy of someone that could possibly outpower her;

4) Howl was always looking for Sophie after he saw and heard her asking for wait for her in the future. Don't think for a second they're first meeting was coincidence. And, strange as it sounds, Sophie was always looking for Howl in a way. I think he was there because that was destiny and above all the power of LOVE!

Thanks for making me watch this wonderful movie again for me to answer your questions more correctly. I cried again lol. I'm a hopeless romantic I guess.
