Larry Birkhead walks through a group of waiting reporters as he enters the Bahamian Supreme Court to attend a hearing in the ongoing paternity case for the late Anna Nicole Smith's six month old daughter Dannielyn, in Nassau, Bahamas, Tuesday.

Tuesday, March 20, 2007

NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) - A Bahamian judge ordered a DNA test Tuesday on Anna Nicole Smith's infant daughter to identify the girl's father, a lawyer for the baby's grandmother said, in what could signal an end to a bitter custody feud sparked by the death of the former reality TV star last month.

Larry Birkhead, an ex-boyfriend of the Playboy playmate who asked the judge to order the test on six-month-old Dannielynn, pumped his fists in the air and jumped up and down as he emerged from the private court hearing.

"It's been a good day in court for me," he told reporters. Asked if he thought he would be see the girl soon, he only smiled and winked.

Deborah Rose, a lawyer for Smith's mother Virgie Arthur, confirmed that the judge ordered the test but she and others who attended the hearing declined to describe the proceedings.

Authorities left the building after the hearing and could not immediately be reached for comment.

Smith's most recent companion Howard K. Stern, who is listed as the father on the girl's birth certificate, left the courthouse in a black sport utility vehicle as Birkhead greeted a crowd of cheering tourists.

Smith, 39, died Feb. 8 after collapsing in a Florida hotel. Authorities have not disclosed the cause.

Stern has been caring for the girl in the gated, waterfront home where he lived with Smith in the months before she died. The Bahamian courts have ordered Stern not to leave the country with the girl before a custody ruling.

Arthur wants to take Dannielynn from Stern, arguing she could provide a more stable home. She did not speak as she exited the courthouse and left in a white limousine.

The girl, Dannielynn Hope Marshall Stern, could inherit millions from the estate of Smith's late husband, Texas oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II. Smith had been fighting his family over his estimated US$500 million fortune since his death in 1995.

Frederic von Anhalt, the husband of Zsa Zsa Gabor, also says he may be Dannielynn's father. Last month, he too filed legal documents seeking a DNA test to determine if he is the father.

Anna Nicole's Secret Diaries up for Auction

Anna Nicole Smith's secret diaries could jeopardise her claim to her late husband's estate.

Anna Nicole - who died last month aged just 39 - writes about a series of lovers she had before she married billionaire J Howard Marshall in 1994.

The two explosive diaries, which are being auctioned on internet website eBay for up to $US1 million each, are set to question Anna Nicole's entitlement to her late husband's estate.

Anna Nicole, who met the oil tycoon in a Houston strip club in 1991, was terrified about telling a lover she could be pregnant in 1992 - and considered having an abortion.

She said: "He will only support me if I have it. But if I decide to go the other way he won't. I'll be on my own. I think that's tacky. I'm scared."

One entry shows her irritation with Marshall for calling her "20 times a day" when they first started dating.

However, Anna Nicole does show a softer side to her relationship with 89-year-old Marshall in the second diary, often proclaiming her love for her husband.

She wrote: "My husband is very sick. I want every hour to comfort him."

The diary shows her dedication to Marshall, revealing how she fed him and cared for him. She also vents her frustration at Marshall's son for cutting off her money.

The second journal, which begins in 1994, ends on the day Marshall died in 1995. The former model also reveals she hated sex. She said: "I hate for men to want sex all the time. I hate sex!"

The diaries - along with her book of business contacts and driving license - are being sold by a former neighbour who kept them after he saw Anna Nicole's mother, Virgie Arthur, throwing them out.

Following Anna Nicole's death, the dispute for the Marshall estate will be carried on in the name of her six-month-old daughter Dannielynn.

Anna Nicole Smith met her late husband billionaire J. Howard Marshall at a strip club in Houston, Texas. And in a new diary she dishes on her sex secrets and writes about a series of lovers she had before she married the oil tycoon in 1994. The pages are still available for auction on eBay. Angela Carson noted earlier that the description promises plenty of dirt on Anna Nicole. The entry reads in part: 'The fact that this secret diary exists has caused a stir around the world in the past two weeks, and hints to what is written inside this diary has made the consigner major bucks. It promises answers to lots of questions. On Anna's private life.'

Anna Nicole Smith Sex Secrets Revealed in Diary

Questions like: 'Who was Anna Nicole's best lover? Details of Anna's surprising events with her mother (which drastically contradicts her recent claims of being a good role model for Anna). What happened during Anna Nicole's weekend getaway with Guess Jeans Chairman Paul Marciano? Did Anna like being on stage to promote her Playboy Playmate Spread? How did Anna Nicole truly feel about sex?'

Continuing: Was Anna Nicole faithful to Howard Marshall? We all know about the many men who claim to be the father of Anna Nicole's new baby girl "Danni Lynn (sic)", but just how many men could have been the father during Anna's pregnancy scare while she was with billionaire Howard Marshall?

Anna Nicole Smith Tribute

Anna Nicole Smith suffered a life full of turmoil and pain. Her son passed away last fall due to an alleged drug overdose, and now, her death leaves behind a baby only a couple of months old.

Anna Nicole was seen as a blowsy, disoriented woman on television, someone who made Ozzy Osbourne seem articulate. She did not seem like someone who was happy with her life. This, unfortunately, was probably not an act.

Two reasons sum up why Anna Nicole Smith remains a point of fascination for the American public. She is a person we admire at least partially for achieving the American dream and moving up from her hillbilly roots. She got discovered as a Guess model and married a rich older man and thus acquired much of her fortune due to a lucky series of events akin to winning the lottery. She was the object of both fame and envy in this regard. We both wanted her to win and lose in the end.

However, she was also a person everyone wants to look down on as a freak show and a train-wreck. Her reality television show especially seemed to show her as an uneducated, belligerent woman whose words were constantly slurred and who surrounded herself with ridiculous yes-men who only stuck around for her money. What draws us to her again and again is the sensation we might feel upon passing by a car crash—watching the destruction from a safe distance away.

In fact, much of the uneasy appeal behind Anna Nicole Smith lay in the idea that we were watching something very heartbreaking and pathetic that shouldn’t have been exposed to the public in the first place. Every second Anna Nicole Smith received airtime as we followed her down her path to self-destruction was a quiet reproach upon the conscience of the media and the American public. Her dysfunction became fodder for public consumption.

This dysfunction was exacerbated by her personal troubles, which ranged from ballooning weight issues to a battle over her dead husband’s estate. She married oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II, a man who was over sixty years her senior. After he passed away, she fought with his relatives for his fortune, estimated at $1.6 billion.

In fact, Smith’s death won’t end legal battles for Marshall’s fortune. The battle is expected to continue on behalf of Anna Nicole’s infant daughter. Additionally, two men are seeking paternity rights to Anna Nicole’s daughter.

The case that decided Anna Nicole’s burial site also continued to make headlines. The judge that presided over the case began to cry as he read the verdict. Anna Nicole Smith seems destined to make sensationalist headlines even after her death.

After the service, Anna's coffin was moved to Lake View cemetery, for the burial -- the final chapter in the tumultuous life of Anna Nicole Smith ... perhaps. But yes the court battle both over her body and her daughter continues.

Information About Anna Nicole Smith

In an sadly unexpected news release from the ap, Anna Nicole Smith died Thursday February 8, after collapsing at a South Florida hotel, one of her lawyers said. The former Playboy playmate, whose bizarre life careened from marrying an octogenarian billionaire to the untimely death of her son was 39 years of age.

According the the press statement, Smith collapsed and was unresponsive while staying at the Seminole Hard Rock Cafe Hotel and Casino, said the attorney, Ron Rale. She was rushed to a hospital.

“She checked in Monday at 8 p.m. as a guest. She was due to check out tomorrow,” said Danielle Giordaano, a spokeswoman for the hotel.

A federal court in California awarded Smith $474 million in a complicated legal twist that began after she declared bankruptcy. That was later overturned.

But in May, the U.S. Supreme Court revived her case, ruling that she deserved another day in court in her battle with her former stepson.

The justices said only that federal courts in California could deal with her case despite a Texas state court ruling that Marshall was the sole heir to the estate.

Then, the stepson died June 20 at age 67. But the family said the court fight would continue.

Daniel Smith died Sept. 10 in his mother’s hospital room in the Bahamas, just days after she gave birth to a daughter.

An American medical examiner hired by the family, Cyril Wecht, said he had methadone and two antidepressants in his system when he died. Low levels of the three drugs interacted to cause an accidental death, Wecht said.

Meanwhile, the paternity of her now 5-month-old daughter remained a matter of dispute.

She was born Vickie Lynn Hogan on Nov. 28, 1967, in Houston, one of six children of Donald Eugene and Virgie Hart Hogan.

She married Bill Smith in 1985, giving birth to Daniel before divorcing two years later.

More On Anna Nicole Smith

Just as the entry of Anna Nicole Smith into the showbiz was with a sudden big boom, so is her sudden tragic death on 8 February, 2007.

Anna Nicole Smith died after being rushed to a Florida hospital following a collapse at a Florida hotel; she was 39. According to initial reports, Smith was found unconscious in her room at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida, Thursday afternoon, and was unresponsive when a rescue unit arrived at the scene. She was then rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital after 2pm ET. Her attorney, Ron Rale, confirmed that Smith died at the hospital about an hour later.

Born in 1967, this statuesque model, Anna Nicole Smith, started out as the Guess? jeans model, became Playboy's Playmate of the Year in 1993 then sidled into acting in the features "The Hudsucker Proxy" and "Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult" (both 1994). In both of these films, Anna Nicole Smith played roles akin to her public persona, a vaguely ironic rendition of Jayne Mansfield (and perhaps Anita Ekberg), a blonde Superwoman purring amidst the wraith-like waifs.

But to know Anna Nicole Smith's personal side, one would have to take look into the past of this blond bombshell. Born Vickie Lynn Hogan, Anna Nicole Smith was abandoned by her father and was shipped between her mother and aunt. When Anna Nicole Smith was 17 years old she met a man by the name of Billy Smith, whom she married and in the same year they had a baby boy named Daniel. As a high school dropout, Smith found herself working at a local fried chicken restaurant. However, Anna Nicole Smith always felt that she she was destined for bigger and better things. She relocated to Houston, sans Billy, and began working at topless bars. Before long, Anna Nicole Smith became one of the most popular strippers in Houston. It was as a stripper that Smith met Texan millionaire J. Howard Marshall. Marshall was drawn to Smith instantly and began spoiling her with his riches.

Shortly after Anna Nicole Smith decided to have a a breast augmentation,Playboy magazine came knocking on her door, offering her a full page spread. Her Playboy exposure(she was named 1994's Playmate of the Year) literally jump-started her career in Hollywood as other print offers--including the popular black-and-white Guess? campaign--and feature roles came her way.

However, it was her 1994 marriage to the then 89-year-old oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall that really made her the talk of the town. Upon Marshall's death in 1995 (just 14 months into their marriage), Anna Nicole Smith contested his six wills and seven trusts (all which stated she was to receive nothing) in a Texas probate court. In 1996, Smith declared bankruptcy in California, where a judge ruled she was entitled to $475 million of J. Howard Marshall's fortune -- a source of bitterness among Marshall's family who would spend the next six years in appeal.

When the E! "True Hollywood Story" featuring Anna Nicole Smith aired in 1997, the network had an unexpected response from audiences. It quickly became the series' highest rated episode. When MTV debuted the wildly popular reality series, "The Osbournes" in 2002, E! wasted no time following suit, asking Smith to star in what would become the "The Anna Nicole Show," documenting the daily life of Anna Nicole Smith, her personal attorney, Howard K. Stern (not to be confused with the famed radio personality), her young, pink-haired assistant Kim Walther, her yappy dog Sugar Pie and her surprisingly well adjusted straight-A-student son, Daniel. Although audiences were frequently amused by Smith's over-the-top antics, they were also frequently appalled by her druggy demeanor, ever-expanding figure and slurry Southern drawl.

As the series neared the end of its run in 2004, Anna Nicole Smith used her newfound fame to team with the diet drug TrimSpa and quickly returned to her original svelte, sexy shape, and while Anna Nicole Smith appeared more lucid in public appearances than she had in the past, she would still sometimes make headlines for her often out-of-it behavior, such as when she presented an award to Kanye West (after appearing in one of the artist's music videos) at the American Music Awards in 2004. In 2005, the TV personality also ultimately lost her appeal to claim a greater share of Marshall's fortune, but as a favorite subject of the tabloids Anna Nicole Smith found a new gig as a regular columnist for a revamped version of the venerable National Enquirer.
