What a nice weekend! Everyone at Saco KOA Camp Ground is wonderful!  The weather held up (only a little rain), everyone enjoyed each others' company, and we did many things! Our objectives for the weekend were to have everyone participate 100%, to work as a team on several activities, and to have appropriate social behaviors at the fore-front. All of that happened, with smiles!

We started off meeting at 4:30 at the cabins at Saco KOA, settled in, and fixed supper...inside out burgers! (the cheese is in the middle of these). Bri helped to make the burgers, learning how to make them all about the same size and how to wrap the cheese in the middle. Rebecca helped by cutting the cheese into small squares so that Bri could put two or three in the middle of the burgers. Kit helped by 'manning' the bbq grill. Others pitched in to get out the paper plates, paper towels, forks, and drinks. LeRoy and Jason's grandmother, Fran, made the potatoe salad, and, Teresa brought along home made chili. After supper, we all walked over to the bowling alley where we went Disco Bowling! Fun! We bowled in three teams, side by side, with a lot of dancing, laughing, and friendly competition. By the time we were finished, it was time to turn in for the evening! Kit and Becca left to return home (they have two cats to tend to). The guys had a cabin, the gals had a cabin, and, Jason had a tent next to our cabin. Jason slept well! The other guys played twister and Mad Gab into the wee hours.

Early the next morning, we were up and out to breakfast at Lucky Loggers (where the owners gave ETL a 25% discount!) Pancakes, eggs, sausages, many options! It was a great breakfast and everyone there was very nice. Many thanks, Lucky Loggers! After breakfast, it was off to Old Orchard Beach for Treasure Hunting with metal detectors. We split into two teams and found many odd things in the sand! Not exactly treasures, but we had fun hunting! No visit to Old Orchard is complete without Pier Fries, so of course we had those! Yum. Then, it was back to the camp ground for lunch.

Jacob helped to assemble giant sub sandwiches. He learned to set out the ingredients, split the bread and open the rolls, sprinkle italian dressing on the rolls, apply the ingredients step by step, then to close the subs and move them to be cut. Now, he knows how to make them for his family! After lunch, there was a camp activity to paint and plant flower pots for gifts for Mother's Day and everyone made one. Next was a water color activity with ETL in which everyone painted something to do with the camp over and then wrote a story on the back of the painting. Bri and Jacob included the sub sandwiches in their paintings. At 4, it was time for tie dying t shirts. What pretty shirts resulted!

For supper, it was time for Stone Soup! After hearing the story, students role played the parts of villagers who added to the soup and they gained an understanding of how this was a story of sharing. Everyone enjoyed the soup, and, afterwards, went about the camp ground sharing the story and the soup! A heavy rain cut the sharing short and we retreated to the cabins for the evening.

The next morning was Mother's Day, and time to pack up, clean up, and leave to be with family for the day. We had a huge breakfast together, then started in on the clean up. The weekend went by very quickly, lots of new learning experiences and fun were had, and, we can't wait to do it again!
