Another DiE in Paradise.

Few days a go early morning I got a call from one of my clients to let me know that the other client of mine is pass away from illness, here I am not going to talk about the illness but the side affect and the procedure to be done until the ‘dead person’ can get cremated and send the remaining ash to their family overseas, in this case to Germany.

The required procedure can be very complicated and indeed tiring as we have to start to make several reports to;

• Community Chief (in Bali known as Banjar) or the smallest community in the village to get the report and acknowledgment letter of the persons dead.
• Report to the Consulate or embassy relate to the nationality of the person, also to get notice that the person is pass away.
• Make a report to the district police office together with the closest witness or anybody who stay in the same property as the person.
• Contact the doctor and ambulance for transport to appropriate hospital or state hospital to have a visum et repertum, and this only can be done after the notification from the police completed.
• Make arrangement and contact their family overseas and asking if they will come over for the funeral or cremation if not then they have to send their power of attorney to a person to act on their behalf in taking care of the dead person.
• With all of the collected documents, then has to go to the Civil Registrar to request for an actual Dead Act.
• When it’s done then the cremation can take place.

But in addition for prior to the cremation there are a few things has to be done also:

• Making reservation to the crematorium.
• Temporary placed the dead body in the ‘cold storage’ in the hospital.
• Buying a coffin and bit of decoration.
• Buying clothing for the dead person to be wear on his final journey.
• Making arrangement to send the remaining ashes to their family.
• Last but not least, the preparation to pay the cost to make a special ‘cleaning’ ceremony in regards to Hindu Believes called ‘Mecaru’ this ceremony is meant to clean the surrounding neighborhood where he use to live from a bad spirit.

Believe it or not the whole process and procedure will cost at least Euro 2,500 up to Euro 3,000 that’s if you do it yourself, but if everything is done by funeral service the cost will go higher for sure.
