Kaş was a coast city of Lycians. Named as "Phellos" by the Greek and it means "stony place". The stony place was well suited name for Kaş because the streets and the Tombs and the theatres were a fine masterpiece of ancient stoneart.

You can go to Kaş Antalya from Antalya International Airport , Dalaman International Airport and Bodrum International Airport. I suggest you to take Dalaman because many hotels has free ride to them from dalaman , the road is better and near and the cab rate is lower than Antalya and Bodrum. Bodrum is the farest and the worst choice of airtransport. Prefer Dalaman I mean it , its the best choice.

İf you are coming from Europe by car or rented a car from Istanbul or Ankara take the D650 , take the signs to Fethiye and turn to Kalkan when you see it. Kaş is 23 km away from Kalkan to the Antalya.

If you perefer to go by car , Kaş is aproximately 900 km from Istanbul and takes about 15 hours of drive. The wise choice is a stop at 3rd hour for rest at Bozüyük Eskişehir , at 8. Hour Afyon with meal, at 12. hour for rest. The road is 1/3 highway  , 1/3 seperated 2 line each  2 way traffic and   1/3 unseperated 1 line each 2 way traffic. Remember that road quality to Antalya is fantastic but if you get your diving license at last 3 years and your first crosscountry ride, Take the airline. This is not about road troubles or the Lazy drivers this absolutely about your safety and joy.

Where to Visit in Kaş Antalya ?

Kas Ancient Theatre , Lycian sarcorphagus is must to see when you went to Kaş.

Also you must visit Simena from Ücağız by the boat because it is placed near Kale island.

An ancient history sits under the beautiful Mediterenian sea and its visible while travelling around.

Simena and Kale island can be reached by Ucagiz without trouble but let me give you a hint , Get in touch with one of the tour companies at kas harbour and go with them. Go for the offices they have kind staff and they can speak french english and german fluently , they are helpful and they are good examples of Well KnownTurkish Hospitality.

Don't forget scuba diving and swimming is banned for the protection of History at Kale island teritory, so do not take your diving stuff with you there. Also swimming at that area is illegal , you can take photos , record video or you can take underwater pictures from the sea level , deep sea photographing and photo-submarines are also illegal.

I felt a bit sorry without swiming across the submerged historic city but when thinking about why its done , The government is right by doing that, im sending greetings to them.

Also in Kaş , you can do paragliding with professional pilots or by yourself. You can fly with a pro pilot everyday and you can fly by yourself anytime. There is no obligation but the takeof zone is at goventment control, you are flying by your own risk when you fly alone. At propilot aided flight everything goes fine , they are kind and can speak many languages fluently.

The flight may take 40 - 45 minues about the weather conditions and the time for takeoff zone takes about 20 minutes. Total cost is about 100€ per person per flight insurance , access , pro-pilot and the paraglide included. the flight is nearly good as dead sea ölüdeniz blue laguun.

Meis Island

Meis Island is one of the Greek islands in the mediterenian sea, It is nearly 1 km away from center of kas and there are few hundered Greek citizens still living at Meis. There is nothing to see at Meis but there is everyday boat ride to Kas to Meis and Meis to Kas.

Greece is making passport control at the enterance and boat access is controlled by military, they are strickly controling the island and their sea area.

My advice is do not try to find a Hotel in Meis, I m your friend , listen to me. If you want to stay in greece go to greece, Meis is not mini greece, it is not a troustic place and nothing to see.

When you go to Kaş , Remmember to see Kalkan , its 30 - 40 minutes away from Kaş and you can take a cab , take bus or minibuses to reach there. Fantastic place to see and come next visit.

Also Between Kas and Kalkan and a bit near to Kalkan there is Kaputaş Beach, One of the most beautiful beach sight of the world. Look from the road and fall in love with Turkey again.

Remember : kaputas beach is protected zone and no beach stuff and toilet is set up because of it. When going to kaputas take cold water or iced water , some stuff to eat and take the least stuff when you go there because beach is 100 meters downstairs and at midday hours some people have troble going up the stairs. Best time to go to kaputas is between 15:00 - 18:30 , the shade is good , sea is wavy and the sand is a bit cooler. The sea is fantastic.

 I will go to Kaş next year again, its my promise to me.

Where to stay ?

There are many motels , pensions and hotels at Kaş but I suggest the hotels at the Çukurbağ Peninsula. they are good , economical and the staff is fantastic.

I dont love advertising , i have many friends at Kaş but i will not mention any Hotels for you. I stayed at many of them and all were fantastic. The owners are nice people you can set up your holiday by phone and they will not let you down. If you have any troble with one of them , you can get any other easiliy because there are at least 50 places to stay at Kas Center and the cukurbag peninsula.
