Antioxidants and Noni-The First Ever Recognized Super Fruit

First we should ask the question: “What is a Super-Fruit?”

Super fruit refers to fruit which combines exceptional high nutrients and quality of antioxidants. Most have scientific evidence to support the concept of possible health benefits.

The super fruit category often includes rare fruits and use raw ingredients for the world wide industry of functional foods, beverages, and nutraceuticals.

Super fruits have been called by some ‘the future of health’, ‘fruits of the future’ and other such names.

More and more publications are coming out discussing super fruits and functional foods and beverages and refer most often to exotic fruits with high levels of antioxidants.

Noni, with the generic name morinda citrifolia was the first officially recognized super fruit as it has a very high nutrient and antioxidant level. One noni juice in particular is wildcrafted, has no sugars or other unnatural ingredients and is even mixed with blueberries and other antioxidant rich fruit. This is the original and most popular brand of noni juice in the world.

What are Antioxidants?

Antioxidants are chemicals that occur naturally in plants and that help to counter act the detrimental effects of free radicals. Free radicals form from exposure to factors such as pollution and ultra-violet radiation.

The free radicals have been seen as a source of diseases like cancer, heart disease. It is now thought that adding antioxidants to the diet can possibly help in the prevention of some illnesses. Antioxidants are now being used to treat some people with macular degeneration to name just one.

Almost all antioxidants come from plants. Some have higher levels than others, as well as different types of antioxidants and those derived from whole foods, rather than in pill form seem to be the preferred method of getting your antioxidant into your system. Juices again seem to be the ultimately preferred method.

Super Fruits Are Creating a Buzz in the Manufacturing World.

Because of the popularity and success of noni juice, many other manufacturers are using the term super fruit to market their products. The consumer should beware as often the ingredients don’t deliver and some even unhealthier ingredients have been added to make the product more marketable.

Once again , it all comes down to ‘Buyer Beware’. Most people don’t fall for the gimmicks of hype but then many do and the obligation is the consumer’s to do their homework, see what is real and what isn’t and see the proof behind the claims.

One company in particular has over 12 published human clinical trials on their products. This is one thing you can look for when looking for the right superfruit product for you.
