Antique Wall Clocks
69Wall Clocks Decor At Its Best
The most unique wall clocks in the world are usually antiques. Well, that's my opinion anyway. Sure, there are very fine examples of newer clocks made by the companies that have been around through the ages - some of the original wall clocks classified as antiques are still made by the same companies today. One such example is Seiko or Seikosha. You may be more familiar with them for watches, but they were once a very big player in the wall clocks arena.
There is not enough of these antique wall clock beauties around, at least of each style, so this makes each one worth that much more. You should plan on paying a premium if you are looking for a truly antique wall clock. Replications do exist, from the likes of Amazon or even at Target stores or others. These are very nice in their own right. But, if you must have an original, then you should be prepared to pay in the thousands - well, in the four figures at least. You may be able to find one locally or just for a bargain in the upper $800-900s but that would be rare if the owner or seller knew their value.
Whether you are looking for large wall clocks to display on a grand wall in your home or for a more refined wood wall clock for a den or study, then the antiques are the way to go. These clocks tell their own history and story. They carry on a tradition from times gone by and their story is built into the wood and machinery itself. You will find that you get caught up in it as you wind the mechanism or hear that soothing and rhythmical ticking sound. The modern quartz or battery powered style can be fine for aesthetic purposes, but if you want that unique wall clocks sound and feel, go for the original - it will be money well spent.
Wood Wall Clocks
Just like if you are going for that traditional and comfortable feeling that the antique wall clock can provide, the same is true for wood wall clocks. This cannot be emphasized enough. The depth and warmth of wood will do magic in a space that you are attempting to create that comfortable charm in.
You can see a few examples of these wood winners at right. Also, I've included here a photo of what the clock parts or mechanisms look like inside. These are the gears, wheels, and such that are turned with that key you see and what move the hands around to keep the time. The sounds that these metal mechanisms make are quite mesmerizing and harmonizing. It isn't that they are musical or anything, but what you will find is that as you sit and read or do some work in a home office where you clock is hung, you will find that calm centering feeling about you. Get yourself a nice wooden clock and let the whirring and ticking bring you back to another time.
