Anxiety Warrior
59We've heard it all before
How many times have we heard that there is a solution, there is a specific cure for overcoming anxiety, whether it be social anxiety, social phobia or avoidant personality disorder?
Yup, you're right, the answers seem to be everywhere with people claiming this or that will make you better, will cure you. You and i both know that this is all very well.
So like any good scientist, i encourage you to participate in testing certain methods and techniques so we can see for our-self what works well and what doesn't. The proof of the pudding after all, as they say, is in the eating!
"That may all be very well, yes lovely, but i've tried everything and can't seem to make progress", that voice cries. Fear not, this voice can be silenced. I promise it's not easy. Yet, i know from firsthand experience that once you let that voice go and drop the guilt of having all the answers but finding no peace, you can then move into a WORK IN PROGRESS of anxiety experimentation. You can then embark on becoming an anxiety warrior.
The war against anxiety
For the blessed ones under the strong hold of anxiety and i mean to those people whose daily life is seriously affected, every day is a constant battle. We all know what anxiety feels like, but for some, anxiety is an all to close companion.
If you are a newly arisen anxiety warrior, choose your weapons wisely!!
A few helpful tips to get you started:
Become a good scientist
Experiment with what you believe to be true.
It's so much fun predicting whether or not things will be as bad as you have imagined them to be, only to find out that what you believed was in FACT nonsense!
Chart your progress, write things down, take a note of your thoughts. Try to find the facts of things rather than relying upon your feelings and thoughts which cannot really be trusted, or can they? Experiment!!
See PARTS of who you are, not yourself as one
Developing self acceptance is easier when you can see things in parts.
We like to measure, compare and belittle ourselves against others and rate or sense of worth on factors that are usually out of our control. When we see that there are parts of our-self that can be measured, such as our height, but at the same time this does not constitute all of our-self, then we can develop a much more realistic view of things and of our worth.
Since we are constantly changing, finding a part of our-self that hasn't already changed is actually quite difficult so developing an eye for parts of our-self, instead of making a rash conclusion of how we are, can be very useful.
If we were to actually rate all the parts of our-self one by one it would take such a long time. We can conclude that it is not realistic to hold our sense of worth ransom to just a few parts is it?
And even if one part is no good and does not work very well, against the millions of other parts is it wise to give too much worth to just one part. A part of our-self is like one star in the universe!!

Learn from your mistakes
You are human, you will fail, you will hurt just like everyone else.
Realise now that you have so much pain to come if you resist your own divine limitless potential for growth. The reason it gets so tough is because we cannot accept change. We hold on to how we think things should be or ought to be or how they were and that slows down growth.
Nurture your own ability to let things go and relax, you won't always get it right but if you keep your mind on learning, then, nothing becomes too big a deal because everything is valuable, even the most intolerable of situations.
Keep it simple
Anxiety can cause many problems for many people and there are many methods that work well.
When trying a method, allow yourself to really try it out regardless of anything else that's going on. Sometimes it can be all to easy to read several different books and try several different methods at one time, so take it easy and single pointedly test whether a method works before moving on to another. If it does not work, why not? Are you practicing it in the correct way? Does it inspire you? What can you change?
Doing things in this way may give you greater confidence in knowing what works and what doesn't but ultimately, you are the expert, you are in the driving seat.
Good luck! It would be great to hear from you!

I agree with you, we have to be the one that determines the inner strength needed to go on in spite of anxiety. It took years of checking out various medications, and therapies that I found the one that works for me. Until they know exactly what neuron or gaba thing the neurologists are talking about, we're in a state of controlled flux. Be in charge of your own treatment.
