Be wary of sites who take advantage of 'home' workers

I've never heard of this particular site, and a quick search on Google didn't reveal anything, so that leads one to believe that the site is relatively new and doesn't have much traffic, or the requester doesn't quite have the right name. However, any site that emphasizes the idea of 'home' most likely isn't going to treat you like a professional freelancer. There are hundreds of these types of sites who prey on the egos of fledgling writers and line their pockets, not yours, with your hard work. In essence, they are treating your kitchen table like a sweat shop...they get the goods with no overhead, no cost and no risk. The freelancer assumes it all for little more than a paltry share in revenue or a token payment ($1/500 words).

If you're serious about freelancing and working from home, go to more reputable writer support sites who list markets, guidelines and calls for submissions. Most of these sites also have a wealth of information on how to break into the business of writing and hone your craft. Try http://www.freelancewriting.com or http://www.writersdigest.com . You could also inquire at your local college and find out if they offer part time classes not only for writing, but marketing as well (becoming successful as a freelancer involves the ability to market your abilities...you have to sell yourself to prospective employers).

The bottom line...if it sounds too good to be true, it most likely is.

Dear Arlie,

Thanks for your cautionary response! I checked out the site above and, having read many Writer's Digest books, appreciate the reference.
