Apt. 4E

Apartment 4E

The Crown apartment building has an eerie unit which is in rare form. This particular unit is apartment 4E and housed 50 families within a year, which none of them stayed past 2 days.

Apartment 4E has now been vacant for approximately 2 years, as the landlord, Mr. Carmichael attempts to find a tenant to occupy the unit.

This unit was specially made for the affluent. It was furnished with Victorian style furnishings, silk curtains, and tables trimmed in gold. The beautiful hardwood floors has an awesome shine and each room in the apartment was spacious.

Mr. Carmichael thought that maybe the apartment was too exquisite for the type of clientele he had been receiving. He pondered changing it until he met the Brown family.

The Brown family consisting of mother, Gwen and her daughter, Tabitha was interested in apartment 4E and was there to view the unit. Mr. Carmichael was happy to have found a tenant and at the same time hesitant to show them the unit, as he speculated they will leave like his prior tenants who occupied the unit.

The Browns were so pleased with the unit, that they accepted and immediately moved in.

After dinner, there was a knock at the door. Gwen answered only to find out, it was Ms Lane who lives down the corridor, who wanted to welcome them into the building. Gwen asked Ms Lane to come in, but Ms Lane refused saying, “I cannot enter such a dwelling!” Gwen asked, “what are you talking about?” Ms Lane responded with a southern accent, “Oh dear, you are not informed? Well, there were other tenants who have lived here, which none of them lasted 2 days. We all wondered why, but never knew. I think there is something strange about this unit!” Gwen thought Ms Lane to be somewhat a gossip, therefore, ended the conversation.

As Gwen started for bed, she took another look at her beautiful home. She smiled with contentment and retired for the evening with a sigh.

The following morning, Gwen and Tabitha started preparing for their day. To their surprise, the entire apartment had been rearranged. They were bewildered to see this.  Gwen contacted Mr. Carmichael to ask why did he come in to rearrange her home while they slept. Since he was not available, she left a message.

As the day progressed, Gwen thought about the incident and was concerned as to what happened. She stopped by Mr. Carmichael’s apartment to talk to him in person. He invited her into his abode and the meeting began. He assured Gwen he never came into her unit, neither did he receive her message.  He assured Gwen that he is there for her if she needed him. The puzzled Gwen thanked him and went home to start dinner.

Upon entering her home, she saw Tabitha sitting at the dining-room table doing homework. She kissed Tabitha on the forehead and asked, “how was your day, Sweetie?” Tabitha, with her mp3 on blast in her ears, never responded. Gwen smiled at her while mumbling “teenagers!” Then, she went into kitchen to start dinner.

Ten minutes later, the front door opens and Tabitha came into the kitchen yelling, “Mom, I’m home!” Gwen turned to look into the dining-room where she saw Tabitha sitting, but Tabitha was not there. Tabitha was just now coming in from school. Gwen asked her daughter, “Tabby, weren’t you just sitting at the table?“ Tabby responded, “Mom, what planet are you on? I’m hungry! What’s for dinner?” Gwen, with a puzzled look on her face decided to order pizza instead. Then, she went to her room to get well deserved rest.

As she laid there, she heard Tabitha in the next room having conversation with an unknown person. She got out of bed to investigate, only to see her daughter there alone, doing homework. Gwen asked Tabitha, “who were you talking to?” Tabitha gave her mother a puzzled look and replied, “mom, I’ve been here doing my homework. I wasn’t talking to anyone.”

Just then, the pizza was being delivered, as there was a knock at the door. Gwen answered. She ate a slice of pizza as she patroled the apartment searching for some sign that she is not losing her mind. Out of the blue, the apartment turned cold in a matter of seconds. Gwen checked the thermostat and saw that she had it set on seventy degrees, however, it felt like 10 degrees in her home.

Gwen tried to contact Mr. Carmichael to come fix it, but again, he was to no avail. They wrapped themselves in blankets for warmth and cuddled in Gwen’s bed.

During the uncanny night, Tabitha saw a figure moving about in the room. Could this be my mom, she asked herself. She called out to Gwen. “MOM!” No response! She turned on the lamp beside the bed and got up to see what was going on.  Just then, the room started to tremble, as though it was an earthquake.  The tremble caused the mirror to break, books fell off the shelf, and the floor gave the illusion of waves in the ocean.  She ran towards the door and it vanished before she got to it. The crying and terrified Tabitha banged on the walls and cried out to Gwen for help.  Imprints of faces start to decorate the walls. These faces were happy, some were sad, and some looked frightened. Then, the multiple hands started to stretch out of the walls in an attempt to grab Tabby. The room turned upside down and Tabby was now standing fretfully on the ceiling instead of the floor.

Simultaneously, Gwen was still in her room experiencing phenomenon of her own.  They were in the same room, but, different dimensions. Gwen heard voices of people in conversation who was not there. Suddenly, the voices became louder, clearer, and more demanding. She covered her ears and cried out, “leave us alone!” Then, a sinister laugh fell upon her ears. She ran to the door, but it too vanished. She ran towards the windows and they all vanished.  Gwen then ran to her closet for protection and saw bodies of the dead hanging there in place of her clothes. She screamed! As she turned away, she saw more corpses hanging around her room and lying on the floor.  Gwen was terrified and full of panic.

Apt 4E Continued

Suddenly, an uneasy calmness fell upon the room. As Gwen stood there terrified, Tabby fell from the ceiling, crying.

Gwen ran over to her daughter, picked her up, and held her, as they proceeded to leave the apartment.

They scurried down the corridor to Ms. Lane’s unit and knocked frantically on the door. When Ms Lane answered, she was standing there with her pink cloth robe, curlers in her hair, and a facial mask. She asked, “What in the world is goin on here? Don’t answer that because I am sure I don’t wanna know!” Ms Lane went on to say, “No go on and tell me. Its your apartment isn’t it? Well, Darlin I tried to tell ya!”

Gwen angrily demanded, “Tell me what you know about my apartment! What is this place? Are you evil?” Ms Lane, with her southern accent, replied in a sarcastically, comedic way, “No, Darlin, evil is what you live with, I am Ms Lane! Ms Peggy Lane, thank you very much!”

Gwen grabbed Ms Lane by the shoulders and said, “Look here you witch, you either tell me what is going on here or I will call the police!” Ms Lane looked into Gwen’s eyes and saw despair, she looked at Tabby and saw fear. Then, Ms Lane gave a sigh and the feeling of sympathy became overwhelming. She grabbed Gwen by the hands and invited them into her apartment. She accommodated them and had a private talk with Gwen in her kitchen.

She explained, “I am not sure what that is you live with, but, I know somethin’s not right! All I know is people move in and things start to happen and then, poof their all gone.” Gwen replied, “things like what?” Just as Ms Lane was about to explain further, the atmoshere came alive and sucked her right out of the room. Gwen waved her hands around the section of the room where Ms Lane stood in an attempt to locate her. She looked around her and cried out, “Ms Lane!” Tabby started to frantically scream. They both ran out of the apartment and hurried to Mr Carmichael’s unit.

It seems whatever evil is present in apartment 4E has taken over other parts of the building.

Upon arriving, they discovered Mr Carmichael’s door was ajar. They walked in, as they called out to him. Mr Carmichael responded, “I’m in the dining room!” They cautiously moved towards his location. When they got to the dining room, they saw a silhouette of Mr. Carmichael sitting at the table. As they got closer, they saw his eyes were out of his head and were attached to the wall. The eyes were animated and watching the women as they gasp in fear. When Gwen caught her second wind, she grabbed her daughter and they ran to get out of the hideous place.

The flooring was transforming into miniature tidal waves underneath their feet. The walls were oozing with scorching, green slime. The ceiling was slowly, lowering to crush them. The window had changed into an enormous mouth with sharp, jagged edge teeth to devour them. As they fought to escape, they could not keep their balance because of the troubled floor. The condition of the walls made it hard for them to hold on, and they could not run because the ceiling was closing in to seal their doom.

Gwen knew the battle against this tormenting evil was coming to an end. Quivering, she held her daughter, so that they could meet their ultimate fate together. The weeping and terrified ladies looked at each other as though it will be their last, while comfortably caressing the other.

Moments later, Tabby was in a cataleptic state and started to descend into the aquatic base that would become her tomb. Gwen hysterically shouted to her, “Tabby, No! Hold on! Hold on, baby!”

Tabby opened her eyes and saw her mother hovering, frantically over her. She said, “Mom, what happened?” Gwen replied, “You fell and hit your head, Sweetie! Are you alright?”

Tabby replied, “How long have I been out? Gwen, responded, “five minutes!” Tabby was surprised by the five minutes. She said, “It seemed like an eternity I was out. All sorts of strange things happened and we were about to die!” Gwen replied, “DIE! You hit your head, Sweetie. Mr. Carmichael is a retired physician and he says its just a bruise. Now, let’s go home to our apartment 4E.”
