An apple is a pome fruit. The parts of the fruit are labelled.

As a saying goes, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.”

There are a lot of apple pie recipes but the ingredients are too many. So, I made my version of an Apple Crisp pie that is quick and easy to prepare. Not to forget, it is also inexpensive. My husband loved it the first time I prepared it. Our family and friends loved it too, especially the kids.

I also made a little research about the importance of an apple to our health. Here’s what I’ve got:

  1. An apple is considered as a pome fruit, which is produced from the species Malus domestica in the rose family Rosaceae.
  2. The parts of the fruit are labeled as floral parts, mesocarp, seed, endocarp, and calyx.
  3. United States of America commonly produced the organic apples.
  4. Apples contain moderately a low amount of Vitamin C compared to other fruits and vegetables.
  5. The fiber content of an apple helps regulate bowel movement and may reduce the risk of colon cancer.
  6. This fruit may also help with heart disease, weight loss and control cholesterol.

If you want to know more facts and information about apples, you may visit the website of Wikipedia.org.

So I want to share my recipe that can be helpful to you especially for busy working moms. I’m sure your families, kids and friends would love it too.  It costs less but taste more.

Apple Crisp Pie

Yield: 6 servings

Ingredients:

For the filling:

·    2 pounds sweet apples (approx 5 to 6 apples)

·    1/2 cup granulated sugar

·    1/4 cup all-purpose flour

·    1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

For the topping:

·    1 cup all-purpose flour

·    1 cup granulated sugar (use 1 ¼ cup sugar for additional sweetness, if desired)

·    1/2 teaspoon fine salt

·    1/2 cup old-fashioned oatmeal

·    1 stick or 4 oz. unsalted butter (diced or cut into cubes)

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Peel and cut the apples into small chunks (cubes). Place the fruit in a large bowl and add sugar, flour and cinnamon. Mix well. Use a ladle spoon to mix all ingredients. Pour into a 9 inch baking dish.

For the topping:

Combine the flour, sugar, salt, oatmeal, and butter in a bowl. Mix well until the mixture is in large crumbles. You can use a whisk to mix the toppings. Sprinkle evenly over the fruit, covering the fruit completely.

Place the baking dish on a sheet pan and bake for 50 minutes to 1 hour, until the top is brown and the fruit is bubbly. Serve warm.
