Apple iPod is known all over the world to audio enthusiasts. One of the products to their stable is the new Apple iPod Touch (Check the latest, lowest prices on eBay). Similar to the original iPod it can be defined as a portable media player. This newer model is different from the rest of the iPods due to its unique ability to be navigated using touch movements. Three variants of the model are available each with 8GB, 16GB and 32GB of flash memory capacity. Also it is priced slightly lower than the preceding first generation iPod touch. But its expensive than the Apple iPhone. It was officially brought into existence in September 2008.

A notable feature is the inclusion of Apple's Safari web browser. Moreover as this second generation product is wi-fi enabled, wireless usage of the device is feasible. Although initially it had no access to Apple's App store, a firmware updated later ensured seamless integration with it. Using the App store, users can download custom verified applications and use them to enhance the functionality of the device. Stainless steel back, sufficiently louder speakers and volume control too integrated into the device. This newer model feels lighter than the first generation product. Microphone support is also there for this product.

Some of the drawbacks of the product can be listed in the form of the battery life and the gross storage capacity. The product drains itself of the battery at a faster pace when video mode is switched on. Turning off the wi-fi reception improved the battery life only by a meager extent and it is generally encouraged to do the same. Software updating by Apple at regular intervals also ensures that the product's bugs are ironed out periodically.

Proprietary software termed as iTunes is required for synchronizing the iPod. iTunes was originally developed for the Mac users and later ported to Windows users too. Data transfer is generally sluggish than its older counterpart Nano. Users are encouraged to update the software to the latest version using iTunes so that the storage capacity is aptly displayed in the device.

Music playback is also made easier in this device. Users can use their fingers to scroll through the available play lists, thanks to the touch sensitive screen. Automatic play list creation is also supported courtesy of the Genius feature of the iPod. The device also features an upgraded sound processing chip which enhances the overall audio quality of the song. Due to this hearing to songs using headphones is a real pleasure. MPEG-4 and H.264 are the only video formats supported. And 640x480 is the default and the only resolution in which the videos can be played. Minor problems with the screen are also widespread. Some of these include negative black and the yellowish tinting of the screen. The yellowish tinting was found in some of the first generation iPhones also. TV out feature is still not enabled on the device although Apple promises a software update which would enable the same. Youtube videos and photos can also be viewed on the gadget.

Apparently, Apple iPod Touch is among the Top Most Wished items in Amazon. This is the Gift for the younger geeks.
