Apples And Bananas
67Benefits of Apples and Bananas
I really like to eat apples and bananas. I think for the most part it is the convenience of being able to grab one just before I leave the house in case I get hungry.
Nature's Lollies
Our bodies naturally like sweet food because it knows that sweet food is filled with sugars which are very easy for out body to break down into energy. Apples and bananas contain sucrose and fructose which are natural sugars. With all those vitamins apples and bananas (and fruit in general) are an excellent choice to keep sweet cravings down. Try to eat 2-3 pieces of fruit a day even when dieting (especially when dieting!)
Low Sodium
High levels of sodium content are found in most packaged foods and take away foods, which is the core of many peoples diets. Lowering your sodium intake is the first thing your doctor will tell you to do if you have high blood pressure. With a sodium level of less than 1mg per serve, bananas and apples are a super snack choice.
High Fibre
In our diets today we don't eat nearly enough fibre because we usually lack enough fruit and veggies. With 3-5 grams of fibre per piece of fruit, apples and bananas are an excellent way to get some into you diet. So what are the benefits of fibre? Makes you feel full making it an excellent between meal snack, relieves constipation or diarrhoa with it's water absorbing properties and lowers cholesterol levels (whcih lowers you risk of heart disease, strokes and heart attacks). Pretty good hey?
Low Calories
With less than 100 calories in a medium sized apple or banana, these fruit are great to keep blood sugar levels (and hence energy levels) up at morning tea or also fantastic at replacing glycogen in your muscles after a workout.
Ace Apples
On top of the things I listed above, apples are a great source of vitamin C and detoxifier.
Great Vitamin C Source
Vitamin C is one of the most crucial vitamins that we must eat. Vitamin C deficiency can leave as wide open to colds and infections. Vitamin C is a very powerful antioxidant which gives it the following properties.
- Boosts the immune system so that it can fight colds and even cancer more effectively.
- Fights free radicals which cause heart disease, cataracts and high blood pressure.
Detox the Liver
A great alternative to those terrible detox kits, apples are excellent at detoxing your liver.
Beautiful Bananas
Bananas main strength, as well as tasting great, is that they are an excellent source in vitamins B6 and B12, potassium and magnesium.
B Group Vitamins
Vitamin B6 is a catalyst in the break down of carbohydrates process, a deficiency in B6 can leave you feeling sluggish and tired as your body can't break down it's food to energy efficiently. Vitamin B12 assists in the break down of amino acids (the building blocks of protein) once again making it easier for our body to digest food. B12 is also crucial in maintaining our nervous system and helping our bodies manage with stress.
High Potassium
Potassium has been shown through many studies to help reduce high blood pressure and therefore reduce you chance of a stroke (yes, two blood pressure lower properties!)
High Magnesium
For the weight lifters, magnesium is great at helping muscles relax which in turn lets them recover faster while you sleep. Two bananas a day and you should notice a difference in your recovery.

Pretty cool - a hub about apples and bananas. I usually eat one or the other every day while at work.
Bananas are my favorite. I love them for breakfast and as an afternoon snack.
BTW I love the banana suits in the picture!
@ Dave
The bananas are from an Australian kids show called 'Bananas in Pyjamas'. Their names are B1 and B2 :)
